Abstract:
According to the conventional art disk array system, when a drive box of a first chassis is blocked, all the drive boxes of a second chassis connected subsequently therefrom will be blocked, and the data in the drive boxes arranged subsequently therefrom cannot be recovered based on the RAID configuration. Even if the data could be recovered based on RAID configuration, it is necessary to perform the recovery process based on RAID in all the subsequently arranged drive boxes, according to which the performance is deteriorated. The present system stores a first drive box in a first chassis out of a plurality of chassis, and a second drive box and a third drive box are stored in a second chassis. One of a plurality of expander controllers within the first drive box is connected to an expander controller in the second drive box, and the other expander controller is connected to an expander controller in the third drive box.
Abstract:
A disk array device includes, a cache memory, a plurality of types of disk drives of which data transfer capacity are different, redundant transmission paths that are data transfer paths between the cache memory and the disk drives, and a controller to divide the disk drives into two groups based on the data transfer capacity and allocate each of the two groups to each of the redundant transmission paths when the disk drives have three types.
Abstract:
Techniques to managing non-disruptive SAN availability in a partitioned cluster comprising one or more components configured to determine whether to separate a cluster into two or more partitions, notify one or more responsive cluster nodes to separate the cluster into a first partition and a second partition, update one or more access states, notify the host that access states of one or more network paths has been updated, and provide the one or more access states. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract:
Systems and methods presented herein provide for managing connections in a SAS domain comprising at least first and second expanders. The first expander detects a failure of the initiator and indicates a change in the SAS domain to the second expander. The second expander detects an increase in arbitration wait time for a connection between the initiator and the target device, determines a race condition exists in the second expander, denies the connection between the initiator and the target device, directs the target device to wait for another connection, performs a discovery of the domain based on the discovery request from the first expander, and prevents a subsequent connection by the target device to the initiator after discovery completes.
Abstract:
Effects of a physical memory fault are mitigated. In one example, to facilitate mitigation, memory is allocated to processing entities of a computing environment, such as applications, operating systems, or virtual machines, in a manner that minimizes impact to the computing environment in the event of a memory failure. Allocation includes using memory structure information, including, information regarding fault containment zones, to allocate memory to the processing entities. By allocating memory based on fault containment zones, a fault only affects a minimum number of processing entities.
Abstract:
Continuous recording multichannel disk-based data logging apparatus. The apparatus includes a plurality of disk drives and an interface including a plurality of parallel inputs. The interface is responsive to data at the inputs to write the data on an active plurality of the disk drives, at least one disk drive being idle. The interface is responsive to a user request for data on one of the active disk drives to substitute an idle disk drive into the active plurality in place of that one, to read the requested data, and to cause that one to become idle.
Abstract:
A method of and system for managing data sets of a storage facility is disclosed. The method and system may include copying a first data set of a first unit of storage space. A second data set in a second unit of storage space may be created from copying the first data set. The method and system may include copying the second data set of the second unit of storage space. A third data set in a third unit of storage space may be created from copying the second data set. The second data set may be verified. Verification may be performed by comparing the third data set with the first data set. It may be determined whether the third data set matches the first data set. The first and third data sets may be deleted in response to the third data set matching the first data set.
Abstract:
If a failure occurs in physical resources constituting a virtual volume, a management server device is notified of information required by a user. A computer system includes a server device for managing a plurality of virtual volumes, a storage apparatus having a storage unit equipped with a plurality of storage devices, and a controller for controlling data input to, or output from, the storage unit, a management server device which is an access target of a user terminal, and an event management device for managing an event(s) generated by the server device or the storage apparatus, wherein when the event management device receives the event, it judges the content of the event and identifies a virtual volume to be affected by the event; and if a service level that should be satisfied by the identified virtual volume is defined for the identified virtual volume, the event management device identifies, based on the content of the received event, whether an incident in violation of the service level has occurred or not, and then notifies the management server device of the identified content as an event based on an event filter.
Abstract:
A nonstop service system using voting and a method for updating and providing information in the nonstop service system. The nonstop service system includes a plurality of groups of nodes for storing and managing information on the basis of identifiers for distinguishing clients, each group including a plurality of nodes each of which is capable of storing and managing information independently. The nonstop service system further includes a control dispatcher server, which is located between the group of nodes and the clients and manages state information and connection information of the nodes belonging to the plurality of groups of nodes. The control dispatcher server selects a group of nodes corresponding to a client according to an information update and provision request from the client, transmits the information update and provision request to the nodes belonging to the selected group of nodes, and, when information is provided from the nodes, provides information which is selected from the provided information using voting based on a specific criterion such as a currency criterion to the client. According to the present invention, it is possible to invest in constructing an initial service system based on the amount of service use, and it is possible to construct a service system with low costs and high efficiency. Further, a nonstop service system can be efficiently constructed without requiring additional equipment.
Abstract:
A storage subsystem coupled to a host computer is described. The storage subsystem includes storage devices and first and second storage apparatuses that control data transfer between the host computer and the storage devices. The first storage apparatus includes a first controller coupled to the host computer via a first host communication control unit and to the storage devices via a first storage device communication control unit. The second storage apparatus includes a second controller coupled to the host computer via a second host communication control unit and to the storage devices via a second storage device communication control unit. At least one of the controllers monitors a status of the first host communication control unit and the storage device communication control units, and, if the status of the first storage device communication unit indicates failure, switch communication paths for transferring data from the host computer to the storage devices.
