Abstract: A request is received from a user at a client to access a file of a set of files backed up to a backup server. Upon verifying a password provided by the user, the client is issued another request for authentication. A first data structure is received responsive to the request. The first data structure is generated using identifiers corresponding to a set of files at the client of which at least some presumably have been backed up to the server. A second data structure is generated. The second data structure is generated using identifiers corresponding to the set of files backed up to the server. The first and second data structures are compared to assess a degree of similarity between the files at the client and the files backed up to the backup server. The user is denied access when the degree of similarity is below a threshold.

Abstract: A system that implements a data storage service may store data for a database table in multiple replicated partitions on respective storage nodes. In response to a request to back up a table, the service may back up individual partitions of the table to a remote storage system independently and (in some cases) in parallel, and may update (or create) and store metadata about the table and its partitions on storage nodes of the data storage service and/or in the remote storage system. Backing up each partition may include exporting it from the database in which the table is stored, packaging and compressing the exported partition for upload, and uploading the exported, packaged, and compressed partition to the remote storage system. The remote storage system may be a key-value durable storage system in which each backed-up partition is accessible using its partition identifier as the key.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system for managing communication connections in a virtualization environment includes a plurality of host machines implementing a virtualization environment, wherein each of the host machines includes a hypervisor, at least one user virtual machine (user VM), and a distributed file server that includes file server virtual machines (FSVMs) and associated local storage devices. Each FSVM and associated local storage device are local to a corresponding one of the host machines, and the FSVMs conduct I/O transactions with their associated local storage devices based on I/O requests received from the user VMs. Each of the user VMs on each host machine sends each of its representative I/O requests to an FSVM that is selected by one or more of the FSVMs for each I/O request based on a lookup table that maps a storage item referenced by the I/O request to I/O the selected one of the FSVMs.

Abstract: Methods and systems for determining whether a software application that is executable by an electronic device is compliant under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are provided. A software application is accessed over a network. A programmed computer processor is used to determine whether said software application, upon execution, is at or above an (i) access control threshold, (ii) audit control threshold, (iii) data integrity threshold, (iv) authentication threshold, and (v) transmission security threshold, which thresholds are minimum thresholds for HIPAA compliance.
Additionally, a determination that said software application is HIPAA compliant is made if said software application, upon execution, is at or above (i) said access control threshold, (ii) audit control threshold, (iii) data integrity threshold, (iv) authentication threshold, and (v) transmission security threshold. Further, a determination as to whether said software application is HIPAA compliant is output.-

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing object versioning in a storage system may support the logical deletion of stored objects. In response to a delete operation specifying both a user key and a version identifier, the storage system may permanently delete the specified version of an object having the specified key. In response to a delete operation specifying a user key, but not a version identifier, the storage system may create a delete marker object that does not contain object data, and may generate a new version identifier for the delete marker. The delete marker may be stored as the latest object version of the user key, and may be addressable in the storage system using a composite key comprising the user key and the new version identifier. Subsequent attempts to retrieve the user key without specifying a version identifier may return an error, although the object was not actually deleted.

Abstract: In one aspect, a system receives a request to cluster a set of log records. Responsive to receiving the request, the system identifies at least one dictionary that defines a set of tokens and corresponding token weights and generates, based at least in part on the set of tokens and corresponding token weights, a set of clusters such that each cluster in the set of clusters represents a unique combination of two or more tokens from the dictionary and groups a subset of log records mapped to the unique combination of two or more tokens. The system may then perform one or more automated actions based on at least one cluster in the set of clusters.

Abstract: A method for updating configuration settings of a backup database supported by a data management system is described. The method may include receiving, from a first user in a first user group, a request to update configuration settings of the backup database. The method may further include determining that the first user is authorized to update the configuration settings of the backup database based on a set of permissions associated with the first user. The method may further include identifying a second user in a second user group that is authorized to approve the request from the first user. The method may further include transmitting an indication of the request to the second user and receiving a notification that the second user has approved the request from the first user. The method may further include updating the configuration settings of the backup database in response to the notification.
