Abstract:
A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) includes a cellular modem pool that comprises a number of pairs of modems in which the data terminal equipment (DTE) ports of each modem pair are cross-connected in a "back-to-back" fashion. This allows the two modems of each pair to interchange data via their DTE ports and thereby isolate that portion of the cellular fax call over the cellular communications channel from that portion of the cellular fax call through the public-switched telephone network (PSTN). Fax information is transmitted over both the PSTN-portion of the cellular fax call and the cellular portion of the cellular fax call using standard fax modulation techniques. The cellular-side modem of each modem pair is adapted to recover fax handshaking and data signaling from the received--fax modulated--signal and translate the recovered fax information into "AT-type commands" for application to the corresponding PSTN-side modem of the modem pair. The PSTN-side modem, in a similar fashion, is adapted to recover fax handshaking and data signaling from the received--fax modulated--signal and translate the recovered fax information into "AT-type commands" for application to the corresponding cellular-side modem.
Abstract:
A modem device for connecting with a facsimile transceiver and a computer, and with a telephone network is disclosed. The device has two modes of operation: a computer mode where the computer can communicate with the telephone network and also receive calls from the facsimile transceiver, and a facsimile machine mode where the facsimile machine can communicate with the telephone network and receive calls from the computer. The device also has a memory or buffer so that for outgoing calls, the facsimile transceiver can send the facsimile data thereto at a local facsimile rate whereupon it can be relayed to the telephone network at a remote facsimile rate higher than the local rate and incoming calls, to receive the facsimile data thereto at a remote facsimile rate whereupon it can be relayed to the facsimile transceiver at the local facsimile rate, the relaying being at the same time as the sending or receiving of the facsimile data. This procedure can save call time on the telephone network.
Abstract:
A facsimile apparatus includes a user interface operative to facilitate communications between the apparatus and at least one user application in operative communication with the apparatus, a network interface operative to facilitate communications between the apparatus and an analog communications network and an IP communications network. The apparatus further includes a controller connected to the user interface and network interface. The controller is operative in a first mode to communicate with the analog communications network using a first facsimile protocol and being operative in at least a second mode to communicate with the IP communications network using the first facsimile protocol and a voice band data protocol.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus includes a receiving unit configured to receive data via a network, a printing unit configured to print an image based on the data received from the receiving unit, and a control unit configured to control the receiving unit to refuse a data reception based on a simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) when a toner remaining amount for the printing unit is less than a predetermined value, wherein the printing unit is configured to print, in the case that the receiving unit receives page description language (PDL) data, an image based on the received PDL data even if the toner remaining amount is less than the predetermined value.
Abstract:
A POS terminal includes an application unit that outputs a first command that performs a first operation on a medium to a first communication port, or a second command that performs a second operation different from the first operation to a second communication port; a receiving unit that receives the first command or second command output by the application unit, the first command or the second command being received by the first communication port or the second communication port; a command control unit that converts the first command to a third command, or converts the second command to a fourth command; and a communication unit that transmits the third command or fourth command output from the command control unit to a third communication port.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus that enables to appropriately perform IP filtering even when communication via a network is performed by a user inputting a destination phone number. An IP filter permits or rejects communication on the basis of a set IP address. An input unit inputs a phone number. An acquisition unit acquires an IP address corresponding to the phone number inputted by the input unit from a server connected to the network. A setting unit sets the IP filter so that communication using the IP address acquired by the acquisition unit is permitted.
Abstract:
A facsimile apparatus includes a user interface operative to facilitate communications between the apparatus and at least one user application in operative communication with the apparatus, and a network interface operative to facilitate communications between the apparatus and at least one of a plurality of communications networks coupled to the apparatus. The apparatus further includes a controller connected to the user interface and network interface. The controller is operative in a first mode to communicate with a first one of the communications networks using a first protocol and is operative in at least a second mode to communicate with a second one of the communications networks using a second protocol.
Abstract:
A FoIP server mediating fax communication between gateways and enterprise backend systems. The gateways are VoIP capable, connected to the PSTN and the enterprise network, and mediate between the PSTN fax call and fax over IP calls. The FoIP Server mediates between the FoIP calls and enterprise backend systems, such as message transfer agent (MTA), Customer Relationship Management CRM, document management, web services, mainframe, or a specialized application requiring faxing capabilities.
Abstract:
A method of performing a negotiation session on a modem connection. The method includes receiving a plurality of negotiation signals from the source modem, by a first gateway, forwarding at least some of the received negotiation signals from the first gateway to a second gateway, over a packet based network, receiving, by the first gateway, responses to the forwarded negotiation signals from the second gateway, forwarding the responses from the second gateway to the source modem, by the first gateway, and transmitting from the first gateway to the source modem, response signals to at least some of the received negotiation signals, without receiving a response to the at least some of the signals from the second gateway.
Abstract:
A method of establishing a fax connection on a link which is a portion of a composite connection. The method includes transmitting at least some signals of a negotiation procedure on the link and initiating a retrain on the connection, without identifying a problem on the connection of the link, the retrain being initiated after transmitting the at least some signals of the negotiation procedure but before transmitting data on the data channel of the link due to the negotiation procedure.
