The scanning unit includes a light source and is configured to scan a document to be scanned at a first illumination position not resulting in halation caused by light of the light source output to the document, and scan the document at a second illumination position resulting in halation caused by the light output to the document. The gloss detecting unit is configured to detect a glossy portion of the document based on images scanned at the first illumination position and the second illumination position. The glossy information processing unit is configured to perform a predetermined process by using information represented by the detected glossy portion.
Abstract:
A gloss effect image pattern is created on a recording medium having a first color by electronically creating a first electronic pattern ink, the first electronic pattern ink including a second color and including holes, the holes representing areas in the first electronic pattern ink wherein the second color is absent; electronically creating a second electronic pattern ink using the second color and including filled holes, the filled holes of the second electronic pattern ink representing areas in the second electronic pattern ink filled with a third color, the third color matching the first color of the recording medium; electronically creating an electronic image region; electronically painting, using the first electronic pattern ink, a background of the electronic image region; electronically painting, using the second electronic pattern ink, a foreground of the electronic image region; and rendering, using marking materials, the electronic image region on the recording medium such that the electronic image region is visible when a relative angle between an observer's viewing angle and an angle of illuminating the recording medium by an illumination source is a first angle, the electronic image region not having the predetermined portion of the holes painted with the third color being not visible when the relative angle between the observer's viewing angle and the angle of illuminating the recording medium by the illumination source is a second angle, the second angle being not equal to the first angle.
Abstract:
A double layer micro gloss image pattern is created on a recording medium by electronically creating a first electronic pattern ink, the first electronic pattern ink including a first color pair and a first pattern, the first color pair including a first high color and a first low color; electronically creating a second electronic pattern ink, the second electronic pattern ink including a second color pair and the first pattern, the second color pair including a second high color and a second low color, the second color pair being visibly different from the first color pair; electronically creating a first layer in an electronic image region by electronically painting the electronic image region using the first electronic pattern ink; electronically creating a second layer in the electronic image region by electronically painting, using the second electronic pattern ink, a second pattern; and rendering, using marking materials, the electronic image region on a recording medium such that the when the first pattern is visible, the second pattern is not visible and when the second pattern is visible, the first pattern is not visible.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus capable of printing image data including a color code symbol without damaging information held in the code symbol even in an environment where only monochrome printing is possible due to print settings or the capability of an apparatus. A code symbol is extracted from input image data, and code symbol information is acquired from the extracted code symbol. It is determined whether or not an image to be output by performing image processing on the input image data is a monochrome image. When it is determined that the image to be output is a monochrome image, a monochrome code symbol is generated based on the acquired code symbol information. The generated monochrome code symbol and the image to be output are synthesized, and the synthesized image is output.
Abstract:
A computer system which implements a method of manufacturing a physical medium configured to store data. The computer system includes a processor, a memory coupled to the processor, and a computer readable storage device coupled to the processor. The storage device contains program code which, upon being executed by the processor via the memory, implements the method. In accordance with the method, a layout design of visible information to be printed with visible ink in a book is generated, wherein the visible information including an article; and a layout design of invisible information to be printed with invisible ink in a book is generated, wherein the invisible information includes a Universal Resource Locator (URL) of an address of a web server at which additional information is located, the URL being encoded in a code within the invisible information, and the additional information being associated with the article.
Abstract:
An apparatus for communicating content includes an image capturing module that captures a rendering of at least a portion of a first still image. The first still image includes a shot from a sequence of images of a video. The first still image includes an embedded cryptographic representation of a code. The code corresponds to the sequence of still images comprising the video. The apparatus includes a decoding module that decodes the embedded cryptographic representation of the code to identify the code, a content retrieval module that retrieves the sequence of still images of the video corresponding to the code, and a display module that displays the sequence of still images of the video. A first displayed shot of the video includes the first still image and a remainder of the video includes a remaining series of images from the sequence of images of the video displayed in chronological order.
