Abstract: A Far UV C excimer bulb assembly including an excimer bulb, and at least two filters. The excimer bulb emits a path of light in at least two wavelengths. The at least two filters remove all wavelengths of light that are hazardous to human tissue. The at least two filters may each be placed perpendicular to the path of the light generated by the excimer bulb. The at least two filters may be a single, curved or cylindrical filter. The assembly may further include a mirror which may also be curved.

Abstract: Light sources are provided with enhanced low-frequency (e.g., near infrared) emission. Some disclosed embodiments include a filament and at least one re-radiator element. The filament heats the re-radiator element to a steady-state temperature that is at least one quarter of the filament's absolute temperature. As disclosed herein, the increased surface area provided by the re-radiator element provides enhanced IR radiation from the light source. Patterning or texturing of the surface can further increase the re-radiator element's surface area. Various shapes such as disks, collars, tubes are illustrated and can be combined to customize the spectral emission profile of the light source. Some specific embodiments employ a coating on the bulb as the re-radiator element. The coating can be positioned to occlude light from the filament or to augment light from the filament, depending on the particular application. The various re-radiator elements can be positioned inside or outside the bulb.

Abstract: Solid state lighting systems using organic LEDs (OLEDs) are disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention provide a solid state lighting system and a luminaire wherein substantially white light is generated by a combination of an organic LED (OLED) and another type of solid state emitter. The other type of solid state emitter may be, for example, a conventional LED made from inorganic materials. The OLED is positioned so that substantially white light is emitted from the lighting system by mixing light from the two types of sources. In some embodiments, a dichroic mirror can also be used at the opening of a mixing chamber to prevent absorption of light from the OLED back into the mixing chamber or conventional LEDs within the mixing chamber.

Abstract: A flat-panel field emission display comprises a luminescent faceplate, a rigid backplate, and an interposed or sandwiched emitter or cathode plate. A positioning spacer or connector ridge is formed on the rear surface of the faceplate to space the cathode plate a fixed distance behind the faceplate. A peripheral seal is formed between the faceplate and the backplate. The faceplate, backplate, and peripheral seal define an evacuated internal space which contains the cathode plate. Abstract: According to the invention, a flat panel device includes a faceplate, a backplate made of a co-fired ceramic substrate and attached to the faceplate to form a sealed enclosure, and structure for producing light. The faceplate includes an active region. The light producing structure is divided into a matrix of "display elements," or a plurality of "light producing elements." Driver circuitry is formed on or attached to a surface of the backplate. The driver circuitry is connected to the display elements or light producing elements by electrically conductive vias formed entirely or partially through or within the ceramic substrate, and electrically conductive traces formed within or on one or more surfaces of the ceramic substrate. Each of the display elements or light producing elements is controlled by the driver circuitry to cause light emission at a corresponding pixel or pixels of the faceplate active region.
