Abstract: Electrochemical sensing devices and methods of using thereof employs a set of one or more sensor-integrated sampling wells or containers that operates with a pressure differential micro-valve to move controlled volume of sampled fluid within a controlled cell-growing environment. Abstract: Various implementations include a combustor system including an inner wall, a fuel grate, an ash grinder, an igniter, and a fan. The inner wall defines a combustion chamber and has a longitudinal axis and first and second ends. The inner wall defines primary and secondary air inlets. The primary air inlets are defined closer than the secondary air inlets to the first end. The fuel grate is disposed within the combustion chamber between the primary and secondary air inlets and is configured to support fuel disposed within the combustion chamber. The ash grinder is disposed between the fuel grate and the secondary air inlets and is rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the fuel grate. The igniter provides energy to the combustion chamber. The fan is configured to cause air to flow from the primary and secondary air inlets through the second end of the combustion chamber.

Abstract: An impingement cooling device including a distributor plate, a manifold, and a heat spreader. The distributor plate includes a first side, a second side opposite the first side, a plurality of injection ports extending through the distributor plate from the first side to the second side, and a plurality of extraction ports extending through the distributor plate from the first side to the second side. The manifold is coupled to the distributor plate and includes a partition wall separating the plurality of injection ports and the plurality of extraction ports on the first side. The heat spreader at least partially covers an object to be cooled and includes a top surface configured to oppose the second side of the distributor plate. The heat spreader further includes a surface feature on the top surface configured to increase heat transfer therefrom.

Abstract: In this work, we investigated the blood platelet adhesion and activation of truly superhemophobic surfaces and compared them with that of hemophobic surfaces and hemophilic surfaces. Our analysis indicates that only those superhemophobic surfaces with a robust Cassie-Baxter state display significantly lower platelet adhesion and activation. The understanding gained through this work will lead to the fabrication of improved hemocompatible, superhemophobic medical implants.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a laser diode system. The system may have at least one laser diode emitter having a substrate, at least one laser diode supported on the substrate, and a facet which a laser beam generated by the laser diode is emitted. A cooling subsystem is included which is disposed in contact with the substrate of the laser diode emitter. The cooling subsystem includes a plurality of cooling fins forming a plurality of elongated channels for circulating a cooling fluid therethrough to cool the laser diode emitter. The cooling fluid also flows over the facet of the laser diode emitter.
