Abstract: An ocular drainage system is provided for treating diseases that produce elevated intraocular pressures, such as glaucoma, wherein the system includes an implantable device and an external control unit, the implantable device includes a non-invasively adjustable valve featuring at least one deformable tube and a disk rotatably mounted within a housing, such that rotation of the disk using the external control unit causes the disk to apply a selected amount of compression to the deformable tube, thereby adjusting the fluidic resistance of the deformable tube and regulating the intraocular pressure.

Abstract: A dielectrophoretic detection device including a chip, with a flow channel having at least one inlet and one outlet, and at least a detection area configured to detect analytes trapped on functionalised beads flowing within the flow channel, first and second electrode assemblies shaped as rows of parallel pillars extending a the height of the flow channel, and configured to generate under electric tension an electric field to form an electrical barrier, and preventing the beads to cross the barrier and drawing the beads to the detection area by dielectrophoretic forces where they are clustered and concentrated. The device may be provided with multiple rows of parallel pillars of electrode assemblies extending over the height of the flow channel, forming multiple concentration lines. The flow channel may be provided with further rows of parallel pillars of electrode assemblies crossing the flow channel in a transverse direction, forming further incubation lines.

Abstract: A method for producing a carbonate-containing species-rich, nitrogen-containing species-free solution from a urea-rich solution is proposed. The method comprising the steps of: providing a first reservoir comprising a first mixture including urea and a catalyser comprising an enzymatic catalyser and/or a microorganism; allowing an enzymatic reaction catalysed by the catalyser to decompose urea, thereby obtaining a second mixture comprising nitrogen-containing species and carbonate-containing species; converting at least some of the nitrogen-containing species into gaseous nitrogen-containing species to obtain a third mixture comprising the gaseous nitrogen-containing species and the carbonate-containing species; filtering the third mixture by a gas- permeable filter, thereby separating at least some of the gaseous nitrogen-containing species from the carbonate-containing species while keeping the catalyser away from the gas-permeable filter; and collecting the so-obtained carbonate-containing species-rich, nitrogen-containing species-free solution.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and a distributed computer system (100) for privacy-preserving distributed training of a global model on distributed datasets (DS1 to DSn). The system has a plurality of data providers (DP1 to DPn) being communicatively coupled. Each data provider has a respective local model (LM1 to LMn) and a respective local training dataset (DS1 to DSn) for training the local model using an iterative training algorithm (IA). Further it has a portion of a cryptographic distributed secret key (SK1 to SKn) and a corresponding collective cryptographic public key (CPK) of a multiparty fully homomorphic encryption scheme, with the local and global model being encrypted with the collective public key. Each data provider (DP1) trains its local model (LM1) using the respective local training dataset (DS1) by executing gradient descent updates of its local model (LM1), and combining (1340) the updated local model (LM1′) with the current global model (GM) into a current local model (LM1c). At least one data provider homomorphically combines at least a subset of the current local models of at least a subset of the data providers into a combined model (CM1), and updates the current global model (GM) based on the combined model. The updated global model is provided to at least a subset of the other data providers.
