Abstract:
This invention relates to a stable aqueous disersion suitable for application to different substrates and especially to paper substrates for producing a barrier layer against compounds of the saturated and aromatic hydrocarbon type. The said aqueous dispersion are characterised in that they comprise destructurized starch in a complexed form. The present invention refers also to the use of said aqueous dispersion as a coating composition for paper based substrates, as microencapsulant of fragrances and as film-forming component for paints.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the production of fermentable C5-C6 sugars from oleaginous herbaceous plants comprising the steps of: a) mechanically separating the seeds from the above-ground lignocellulose biomass and breaking-up said lignocellulose biomass; b) placing the above-ground lignocellulose biomass in contact with a basic aqueous solution so as to obtain a paste containing from 10 to 50% by weight of the said lignocellulose biomass at temperature of between 10 and 95° C. for a time of between 1 minute and 24 hours; c) separating out the paste obtained in step b) in a solid fraction containing essentially hemicellulose and cellulose; in a liquid fraction containing lignin and extractables; d) subjecting the said solid fraction containing essentially hemicellulose and cellulose to enzyme hydrolysis.
Abstract:
Disclosed are aliphatic-aromatic biodegradable polyesters obtained from aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, polyfunctional aromatic acids of renewable origin and particularly 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid, and diols. Also disclosed are blends of the polyesters with other biodegradable polymers of either natural or synthetic origin. The polyesters have properties and viscosity values that make them suitable, after adjusting their molecular weight, for use in numerous practical applications such as films, injection molded products, extrusion coatings, fibers, foams, thermoformed products, extruded profiles and sheets, extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, rotomolding, stretch blow molding.
Abstract:
This invention relates to biodegradable films characterised by high resistance to processes of the photodegradative type, mainly activated by the ultraviolet component of sunlight, which are particularly suitable for use in the mulch film sector. These films comprise a composition containing at least one polyphenol of plant origin.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a process for the synthesis of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) comprising the steps of: (1) oxidising an aqueous solution of 5 hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in the presence of molecular oxygen, of a heterogeneous catalyst comprising ruthenium and of a strong base at a temperature above 100° C., obtaining a reaction product in aqueous solution comprising a salt of FDCA acid; (2) separating said heterogeneous catalyst from said reaction product in aqueous solution, and (3) re-using said heterogeneous catalyst in the oxidation reaction in step (1).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for the production of 1,4-butanediol comprising the preparation of a fermentation broth comprising 1,4-butanediol from renewable sources and water, separation of a liquid fraction comprising said 1,4-butanediol and water from one or more solid fractions, said liquid fraction comprising 2-pyrrolidone in an amount higher than 80 ppm, one or more passages of the resulting liquid fraction through a bed comprising one or more cation-exchange resins thereby providing an output pH of said liquid fraction from 4 to 2, one or more passages of the resulting liquid fraction through a bed comprising one or more anion-exchange resins thereby providing an output pH of said liquid fraction from 8 to 11, and the distillation of the liquid fraction thereby provided so as to obtain a composition having a concentration of said 1,4-butanediol higher than 99.0% by weight and comprising 2-pyrrolidone in an amount lower than 6 ppm. The resulting composition should exhibit an APHA color value after ageing of less than 30.
