Abstract:
One aspect of the invention relates to a method comprising a single-stage conversion of NO and/or NO2 in a first stream to one or more mineral acids and/or salts thereof by reacting with nonionic gas phase chlorine dioxide ((ClO2)0). Another aspect of the invention relates to a method comprising first adjusting the NO and NO2 concentrations in a first stream to a molar ratio of about 1:1, and then reacting with an aqueous metal hydroxide solution (MOH). Another aspect of the invention relates to an apparatus that can be used to carry out the methods disclosed herein. The methods disclosed herein are unexpectedly efficient and cost effective, and can be applied to a stream comprising high concentration and large volume of NO and/or NO2.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for reacting a natural oil with a short chain alcohol in the presence of alkaline catalyst, in which a mixture of natural oil, short chain alcohol and alkaline catalyst is fed in one direction along a pipe reactor under transitional or turbulent conditions, so that the reactants are mixed in a direction normal to the flow direction to a greater degree than in a direction parallel to the flow direction or so that the reactants are mixed in a direction normal to the flow direction, such that the time taken for 90% of the elements of fluid to pass through the reactor is within 20% of the mean residence time of reactant in the reactor. There is also provided a ship, comprising means for storing a raw material used in the synthesis of biodiesel, a plant for the synthesis of biodiesel and means for storing the biodiesel synthesized.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for quenching the effluent gas of a furnace comprising: a) providing a furnace comprising a radiant zone enclosure means having a plurality of tubes disposed therein, an inlet means for introducing the process fluid into the tubes, means for exposing the external surface of the tubes to radiant heat for heating said process fluid and thereby produce an effluent gas, b) providing a quench zone having a plurality of quench tubes in which the effluent gas is passed and such as the inlet of one quench tube is connected to the outlet of one or more tubes of the radiant zone, c) recovering the effluent gas after it has been cooled in the quench tubes, wherein, at least a part of the quench tubes and advantageously all the quench tubes are tubes having means inside of it, on all the length or a part of the length, to promote turbulent flow by breaking the boundary film on the internal surface of the tube. The present invention also relates to a quench exchanger to carry out the above process.
Abstract:
A vessel packed with a microfibrous media made of micron-sized highly conductive fibers, which are able (and may be used) to immobilize various reactive materials including catalysts, sorbents, electrocatalysts, and other chemically reactive solids. The vessel enables fine temperature control and a uniform temperature profile for a range of highly endothermic or exothermic chemical reactions, sorptions, separation processes, mixing operations, and heat transfer applications.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a process for continuously preparing water-absorbing polymer particles by mixing a monomer solution with a redox initiator consisting of at least one oxidizing agent and at least one reducing agent and polymerizing it, wherein the monomer solution is mixed with at least one oxidizing agent upstream of the polymerization reactor and the at least one reducing agent is metered into the polymerization reactor, and also to an apparatus for performing the process.
Abstract:
A mixing unit, a mixing device, an agitation impeller and a pump mixer can mix a large amount of fluid while having significant mixing effects in a small space. There are also provided a mixing system that uses the pump mixer and achieves a continuous operation and a reaction device that uses the mixing unit and achieves an efficient operation. The mixing unit (1) includes: a stacked member (2) in which a plurality of mixing elements (21) are stacked; and a first plate (3) and a second plate (4) between which the stacked member (2) is sandwiched and which are arranged opposite each other. In the mixing unit (1), the mixing elements (21) have a plurality of first through holes (22), the second plate (4) has an opening portion (41) communicating with at least one of the first through holes (22) in the mixing elements (21) and the mixing elements (21) are arranged such that part or all of the first through holes (22) in one of the mixing elements (21) communicate with a first through hole (22) in the adjacent mixing element (21) to allow fluid to be passed in a direction in which the mixing elements (21) extend.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method of producing methanol includes reacting a heated hydrocarbon-containing gas and an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor; to provide a product stream comprising methanol; and transferring heat from the product stream to the hydrocarbon-containing gas to heat the hydrocarbon containing gas. After removing methanol and CO2 from the product stream, unprocessed hydrocarbons are mixed with the hydrocarbon containing gas for reprocessing through the reactor. Reactor byproducts are injected into the ground to increase the output of a hydrocarbon producing well.
