Abstract: A valve arrangement for a pressurizable vessel includes a valve member mountable on a vessel for movement relative thereto. The valve member is formed with a passage which extends over part of the length of the valve member. A valve-actuating assembly is removably mountable on the vessel. The assembly includes a fitting surrounding the valve member with clearance at the exterior of the vessel, a housing movably mounted within the fitting, and force-transmitting elements partially received within the housing and operative for displacing the valve member between an open position in which the passage communicates the vessel interior with the clearance so as to permit fluid flow between the interior and exterior of the vessel, and a closed position in which such fluid flow is prevented.

Abstract: A closure is provided for an accumulator. The closure comprises a drain housing, a spring within the drain housing, and hollow cup-like piston within the drain housing, which is urged into an open position by the spring. With the piston in a closed position, the accumulator port is closed and blocks the bladder from entering the drain. The piston has substantially elliptical drain holes in its cylindrical side wall. With the piston in an open condition, the drain holes extend from within the accumulator housing to within the drain housing. The wall which defines the opening of each drain hole, at the portion adjacent to the closed joint of the piston, is canted so that a vector of the forces attributable to liquids leaving the accumulator is directed against the piston to aid in keeping it open. The spring is a coiled spring, so dimensioned as to be proximate the drain housing wall so as to be removed from the flow of the stored substance as it enters and leaves the accumulator. Further, the spring abuts the piston at the end of the piston which is well within the drainage housing. The diametrcal spacing between the piston and drain housing is such as to permit the stored substances to leave the accumulator with the piston in a closed position.

Abstract: Disclosed is an accumulator comprising a cylindrical shell including a cylindrical portion, a partitioning member for partitioning the interior of the shell into a hydraulic chamber and a gas chamber, and a port including a hydraulic fluid flow path for communicating the exterior of the shell and the hydraulic chamber. The variation of the pressure of a hydraulic fluid flowing into the hydraulic chamber is accommodated by expansion and compression of a gas in the gas chamber according to expansion and contraction of the partitioning member. The port is approximately airtightly inserted into the cylindrical portion of the shell, and is welded to an outer circumference of the cylindrical portion by means of welding.

Abstract: A pressure accumulator for a hydraulic system includes a rigid container whose cavity contains a partition of pliable, resilient material which seals one compartment adjacent the bottom wall of the container from another compartment containing a gas under a pressure sufficient for expanding the partition into abutting engagement with the bottom wall when the fluid pressure in the one compartment equals atmospheric pressure. A passage outward from the one compartment through the bottom wall is shielded against insertion therein of any portion of the partition, and the resulting risk of injury to the partition, by a shielding member projecting from the bottom wall into the one compartment and having a frontal surface directed toward the other compartment. Its annular rim portion has a surface contiguously adjacent an annular portion of the bottom wall, and the two annular surface portions and the partition bound therebetween an annular space at atmospheric pressure in the one compartment. The passage of the bottom wall communicates with an orifice in the annular space.
