Abstract:
A system for use in controlling operating functions of a controllable device includes a hand-held device and an intermediate device in communication with the hand-held device and the controllable device. The hand-held device is adapted to receive a gesture based input and to transmit a signal having data representative of the gesture based input. The intermediate device has programming for translating the data representative of the gesture based input in a signal received from the hand-held device into a command signal to be communicated to the controllable device wherein the command signal has a format appropriate for controlling an operating function of the controllable device that is associated with the gesture based input.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for communicating with a target device in a personal area network (PAN), when a multi-function remote controller (MRC) is outside the coverage area of the target device. The apparatus includes a proxy device which automatically forms a virtual PAN by setting up a pairing link with the target device to control the target device. Accordingly, a user may continuously control the target device irrespective of the location of the MRC.
Abstract:
A system and method used to configure a smart device to command functional operations of a target appliance. The smart device retrieves from a controllable appliance, such as a settop box, data indicative of a codeset identity of the target appliance wherein the codeset identity was determined during a process used to configure a conventional universal remote control to command functional operations of the target appliance and wherein the process used to configure the conventional universal remote control is performed in cooperation with the controllable appliance. A remote control application resident on the smart device then uses the data indicative of the codeset identity retrieved from the controllable appliance to also configure the smart device to command functional operations of the target appliance.
Abstract:
A display apparatus including a display which displays content, a communicator configured to communicate with a remote controller and an external device, and a controller. The controller being configured to, upon receiving a control command from the external device, control operation of the display apparatus based on the received control command, control the received control command to be transmitted to the remote controller, and control the communicator to transmit the received control command to the external device through the remote controller.
Abstract:
A solar photovoltaic monitoring system for monitoring and controlling a solar photovoltaic inverter is provided. The system includes a wireless transceiver coupled to a solar photovoltaic inverter that includes a device monitor for monitoring and controlling the inverter. The device monitor generates monitoring data defining a status of the system and transmits the data by using the transceiver coupled to the inverter. The system also includes a wireless repeater for receiving data from the inverter and retransmitting the data and a transceiver coupled to a gateway capable of communicating the received retransmitted data to a monitoring station. The gateway also transmits control data received from the monitoring station. The repeater receives control data from the gateway and retransmits data to the inverter. The inverter receives the retransmitted control data and controls its operation based on the received data.

Abstract:
A network control system includes a control apparatus and a controlled apparatus. The control apparatus includes: a first execution unit which executes a first application program for operating the controlled apparatus; a display unit which displays an operation screen; an operational command generation unit which generates an operational command in response to an input by a user to the operation screen; and a first communication unit which outputs the operational command. The controlled apparatus includes: a second execution unit which executes a second application program, and identifies an operation type of the controlled apparatus; an operation type information generation unit; and a second communication unit which outputs the operation type information. The first execution unit generates an operation screen corresponding to the operation type, and the display unit displays the generated operation screen.
Abstract:
A remote control system (100) includes a home appliance (10) and a relay device (20, 30) for relaying transmission of an operation instruction for controlling the home appliance (10). The home appliance (10) includes a first detector for detecting a communication interruption on a first communication line (41, 42) for transmission of the operation instruction from the relay device (20, 30) to the home appliance (10), a receiver for receiving, from the relay device, an interruption signal indicating a communication interruption on a second communication line (42, 43) for transmitting the operation instruction from a communication device to the relay device (20, 30), and a state changer for changing a state of the home appliance in accordance with a duration of at least one of the communication interruption detected by the first detector or the communication interruption indicated by the interruption signal. The relay device (20, 30) includes a second detector for detecting the communication interruption on the second communication line (42, 43), and a transmitter for transmitting the interruption signal to the home appliance (10) when the communication interruption is detected by the second detector.
Abstract:
A communication interface and a device control, management and monitoring system are provided to enable the networking of and communication between a multiple devices operating under different protocols. The communication interface may act as a translator or protocol converter that reformats transmissions from one protocol to another based on protocol compatibility between the recipient and transmitting devices. The device control and monitoring system may store predefined rules that are triggered when specified conditions associated with the networked devices are detected. The rules may specify an action to take such as transmitting a discount offer to a user or turning off a light. According to one or more arrangements, the communication interface may act as an intermediary between the networked devices and the device control system so that the device control system is not required to understand or be compatible with the various other protocols used by the networked devices.
