Abstract: An ionizing device generates ionizing lines to shape solvent borne coating material being dispersed from an electrostatic rotary atomizer. A band having a clamping element affixes the device to the electrostatic rotary atomizer. A halo is affixed to the band by at least one support arm. The halo includes a plurality of generally conical members spaced therearound, each generating ionic lines to shape the atomized coating material being dispersed from the rotary atomizer. A shroud is positioned around each of the generally conical members to shape the ionizing lines being generated to form an ionic field to improve the transfer efficiency of the electrostatic rotary atomizer.

Abstract: Barrier ribs are formed on a back plate moved while a rib material is delivered thereto from a nozzle. Immediately after the rib material is delivered from the nozzle to the back plate, the rib material is irradiated with light to promote curing of the rib material. By promoting curing of the rib material with light emitted immediately after delivery of the rib material, the rib material delivered linearly to the back plate is maintained in shape. The rib forming process is thereby simplified to form barrier ribs with high quality and high accuracy. The rib material is used efficiently to achieve low cost. Besides, the barrier ribs may be formed to have a high aspect ratio.

Abstract: The invention relates to an intermediate component for protecting hangers associated with electrostatic coating processes. The component is an electrically conductive, pliable, tubular member, and inexpensive relative to the hanger which it serves to protect. The component lessens the cost associated with traditional hanger cleaning and preserves hanger life and integrity. The tubular member may have a longitudinal slit for installing the member over a cross bar of a hanger.

Abstract: According to the inventive method for applying substances to a support, especially monomers for the combinatorial synthesis of molecule libraries, the substances are first embedded in a matrix consisting of at least one solvent, said solvent being in a solid state of aggregation at a temperature below 90null C., preferably below 50null C. The substances that are embedded in the matrix from transport units which are subsequently applied to the support in a solid state of aggregation, at a temperature below 90null C., preferably below 50null C. Alternatively, the transport units can be dissolved with a second solvent part and applied to the support in a liquid state of aggregation, where they adopt a solid or gel-like stage of aggregation after said solvent part has completely or partially evaporated. The substances on the matrix are then mobilized by modifying their physical environment and brought into the vicinity of the support surface through a physical process. Here, the substances link up with the molecules. This method can be repeated to apply multiple layers to the support in precise positions. The method can be carried out using a device which essentially has the structure of a laser printer or a laser copier or an ink-jet printer.

Abstract: A spraying device for dispensing electrostatic liquid droplets includes a container holding a liquid at one end, and having a nozzle assembly with an aperture at another end. The nozzle assembly includes a longitudinal hollow tube terminating in a metallic structure. The metallic structure includes a metallic base plate having at least one aperture formed therein for fluid communication with the hollow tube. The longitudinal hollow tube includes an end inserted in the liquid. A charge accumulator disposed in the liquid accumulates electrostatic charges. A wire conductor between the base plate and the charge accumulator transfers the electrostatic charges from the liquid to the nozzle assembly.
