Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes exhaust-side and intake-side variable valve timing mechanisms, an oil passage defined in the cylinder head, an exhaust-side connection passage that branches from the oil passage to conduct oil to the exhaust-side variable valve timing mechanism, and an intake-side connection passage that branches from the oil passage to conduct oil to the intake-side variable valve timing mechanism. The connection passage that conducts oil to one of the exhaust-side variable valve timing mechanism and the intake-side variable valve timing mechanism that has a greater amount of oil leakage when oil having the same pressure is supplied to the variable valve timing mechanisms to operate the variable valve timing mechanisms is located at a downstream side in the oil passage of the connection passage that conducts oil to the variable valve timing mechanism that has a smaller amount of oil leakage.

Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, a thermostat valve for changing over between coolant circulation through a radiator-routing passage to coolant circulation through a bypass passage, is provided with a first valve for opening and closing the radiator-routing passage, and a second valve for opening and closing the bypass passage. The first and second valves and are operable concurrently. A cylinder coolant jacket around cylinder bores of a cylinder portion is partitioned into two in a cylinder axis direction to thereby form a main cylinder coolant jacket on a side of a cylinder head portion and a sub-cylinder coolant jacket on a side of a crankcase portion. The bypass passage is formed partly by the sub-cylinder coolant jacket. The above arrangement expedites warming-up during the engine start and achieves favorable appearance by a simplified structure.

Abstract: A rotor for a hydraulic camshaft adjuster. The rotor includes a first rotor element and a second rotor element. At least one of the rotor elements has oil channels separated from each other by radially arranged elevations. Each elevation of the first rotor element has a first joining profile and the second rotor element forms a complementary-shaped second joining profile corresponding to the position of each first joining profile, wherein the first and the second joining profile engage with each other in the assembled rotor. The first joining profile of the first rotor element has a notch and an elevation and the second joining profile of the second rotor element has a notch and an elevation formed in such a way that prior to the joining of the two rotor elements, a height of the elevation of the second joining profile, which engages in a notch of the first joining profile, is less than a height of the notch of the first joining profile, and a height of the elevation of the first joining profile, which engages in a notch-of the second joining profile, is less than a height of the notch of the second joining profile.
