Abstract: A patient transport apparatus comprises a support structure. The support structure comprises a base, a frame, and a patient support surface to support a patient. One or more handle assemblies are coupled to the frame to maneuver the patient transport apparatus. Each handle assembly comprises a handle and a handle extension supporting the handle. The handle extension is configured to articulate relative to the frame from a stowed position to a use position such that the handle is adjacent to the frame in the stowed position and the handle is extended from the frame by the handle extension in the use position. The apparatus also includes a locking device comprising one or more locking elements configured to discretely lock and unlock the handle extension relative to the frame in the use position or the stowed position.

Abstract: Light-based non-invasive blood pressure measurement systems and methods that include a sensor having a light emitter and a light detector are disclosed. The light emitter emitting coherent or non-coherent light that is transmitted into and reflected from the tissues of the patient, including reflecting from moving blood. The light reflected from the moving blood being having a Doppler shift and detected by the light detector to generate a noninvasive blood pressure signal. The non-invasive blood pressure signal is processed to determine the instantaneous velocity of the blood. Additionally, pulse wave velocity data is obtained nearly, or substantially, simultaneously with the acquisition of the non-invasive blood pressure signal. Using the pulse wave velocity, the instantaneous velocity of the blood and a density of the blood, an instantaneous blood pressure can be determined.

Abstract: Surgical systems, navigation systems, and methods involving a robotic manipulator configured to control movement of an instrument to facilitate a surgical procedure. The navigation system includes a camera unit configured to optically track a pose of the instrument and a non-optical sensor coupled to the instrument. The navigation system includes a computing system coupled to the camera unit and being configured to obtain readings from the non-optical sensor. The computing system detects a condition whereby the camera unit is blocked from optically tracking the pose of the instrument. In response to detection of the condition, the computing system tracks the pose of the instrument with the readings from the non-optical sensor.

Abstract: A method for tracking a location of interest of anatomy of a patient in medical imaging includes, at a computing system, receiving a series of medical imaging video frames captured by a medical imager imaging the anatomy of the patient; analyzing at least one frame of the series of medical imaging video frames to determine a position of the location of interest relative to the medical imager; determining at least one estimate of relative motion between the medical imager and the anatomy of the patient; and tracking the position of the location of interest relative to the medical imager based on the position of the location of interest determined from the at least one frame and the at least one estimate of relative motion between the medical imager and the anatomy of the patient.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, etc., includes a control panel having a touchscreen display adapted to display a plurality of screens thereon. A controller automatically displays a lock screen on the display after a period of non-use and prevents the user from navigating to a different screen until the user drags a slider icon across the display and thereafter continues to press down on the slider icon for a predetermined time period. The controller may alternatively, or additionally, be adapted to display a litter frame tilt angle on the lock screen. The controller may alternatively, or additionally, display a motion control screen that includes a first lock indicator when a first motion control is in a locked state, and that adds a second lock indicator when a user presses on the first motion control while it is in the locked state.

Abstract: A method for hip distraction includes positioning a patient on a slide-resisting pad placed on a surgical table; tilting the surgical table so that the patient is in a first degree of inclination; applying a distraction force to a leg of the patient while the patient is in the first degree of inclination so that a hip joint of the patient is distracted, wherein the distraction force is opposed by a combination of a slide-resisting friction force provided by the slide-resisting pad and a gravitational force attributable to the first degree of inclination; reducing the tilt of the surgical table in accordance with a reduction of the distraction force over time so that the patient is in a second degree of inclination; and performing at least a portion of a surgical procedure on the distracted hip joint while the patient is in the second degree of inclination.
