Abstract:
The invention provides an opaque contact lens comprising a lens body constructed of polymer and solid latex polymer particles directly bound to at least a portion of a surface of the lens and a method for the production thereof.
Abstract:
Paint formulations having a high absorptivity with respect to solar radiation are disclosed herein. The disclosed paint formulations are also thermally and mechanically durable, thereby enabling the paint formulations to be used on components in solar thermal applications where exposure to high temperatures and environmental conditions may be an issue. The paint formulation can include an oxide-based pigment, an organic binder, one or more additives, an inorganic filler, and/or an organic solvent. The pigment can have a relatively high absorptivity with respect to light having a wavelength in the range from 250 nm to 3000 nm. Curing of the paint formulation can irreversibly convert the organic binder into an inorganic binder.
Abstract:
The present invention provides particles comprising either a water-soluble polymer or a phospholipid, wherein at least one near infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe and optionally at least one active agent such as a targeting moiety, capable of selectively recognizing a particular cellular marker, are non-covalently bound to the outer surface of the particles. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising these particles may be used, inter alia, for detection and treatment of tumors in the gastrointestinal tract
Abstract:
The invention relates to an ink-jet ink composition for printing on a ceramic substrate comprising: (a) a liquid vehicle; (b) sub-micron particles of binding composition having a melting point below 6000 C; and (c) sub-micron particles causing an etch-like effect, said sub-micron particles are selected from metal oxide particles, high melting point frit particles, and a combination thereof, said sub-micron particles causing an etch-like effect have a melting point of at least 500 C above the melting point of said sub-micron particles of binding composition. The invention further relates to a printing process using such ink and to a ceramic substrate printed with a pattern or image having an etch-like effect, by means of the printing process.
Abstract:
A therapeutic, cosmetic or cosmeceutic composition for topical application, capable of stabilizing an active ingredient and delivering the active ingredient, comprising a plurality of microcapsules having a core-shell structure. The microcapsules have a diameter of approximately 0.1 to 100 micron. The core of each microcapsule includes at least one active ingredient, and is encapsulated within a microcapsular shell. The shell is comprised of at least one inorganic polymer obtained by a sol-gel process, and the shell protects the active ingredient before topical application and is designed to release the active ingredient from the microcapsules following application. The composition is useful in encapsulating active ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide, that are unstable in other formulation, or are irritating to the skin.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for the production of nanoparticles from oil-in-water nanoemulsions, in which the nanoemulsion is prepared by phase inversion techniques. The phase inversion may be achieved by using a constant temperature, where the inversion occurs by continuous addition of water or by varying the temperature involving heating and rapid cooling.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for preparing a redispersible powder of nanoparticles of a water-insoluble organic compound, the process including the steps of: (i) preparing an oil-in-water microemulsion comprising a water-insoluble organic compound, a volatile water-immiscible organic solvent, water, and at least one surfactant; and (ii) removing the volatile water-immiscible organic solvent and the water so as to form the redispersible powder comprising said nanoparticles, wherein the nanoparticle are in a particulate form, and wherein the solubility of the water-insoluble organic compound is at least about 5 times greater than the solubility of the water-insoluble organic compound in unprocessed form. Step (i) can further include the addition of co-solvent or polymer. The water-insoluble organic compound can be a pharmaceutically active agent (in particular a statin), a cosmetic active agent, an anti oxidant, a preservative, a colorant, a food additive, an agriculturally active compound and a fragrance.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a gel composition useful for skin care and protection comprising up to 80% w/w Dead Sea water (or similarly constituted water), solubilizers, gelling agents or viscosity modifiers and deionized water to complete up to 100%. Preferably, the composition is a clear liquid gel. The gel optionally comprises hydrophobic and/or hydrophilic active agents. In the composition of the present invention the hydrophobic active agents may be vegetable oils, free fatty acids or vitamins, or any combination thereof and the hydrophilic active agent may be humectants, α-hydroxy acids, anti irritant agents, plant extracts, moisturizing agents or hydrolyzed plant proteins or any combination thereof. The gel may further comprise antioxidants and fragrances.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a redispersible powder and aqueous dispersions of nanoparticles of water insoluble organic pesticides. The invention further provides methods for preparing the redispersible powder and the aqueous dispersion, wherein the methods include preparation of an oil-in-water nanoemulsion or microemulsion and solvent removal. The present invention also provides pesticidal compositions of the redispersible powder or aqueous dispersions, and their agricultural use in combating pests.
