Abstract: A system includes a processor and, a computer-readable tangible storage device storing program instructions for execution by the processor. The program instructions include instructions for receiving ultrasonic derived data comprising an ultrasound image, representing a region of interest, and radio frequency “(RF”) data associated with the ultrasound image, and instructions for analyzing the RF data to identify at least one feature associated with a region of interest, including either or both of a feature representing a two-dimensional spectrum feature and a feature based on a cepstrum determined from the RF data. The program instructions further include instructions for classifying the region of interest as one of a plurality of anatomical classes from the identified at least one feature and causing a display to display the anatomical class.

Abstract: Provided herein are compositions, systems, kits, and methods for administering a gel composition into a tumor of a subject and treating with laser light (e.g., for photoacoustic destruction of the tumor and tumor debris generation), where the gel comprises functionalized fullerenes (FFs) and a biocompatible polymer. In certain embodiments, 0.1-5% (e.g., about 1-2%) by weight of the gel is the functionalized fullerenes (e.g., polyhydroxy fullerenes). In other embodiments, the FFs have a generally symmetrical spherical structure.

Abstract: Provided herein are compositions, systems, kits, and methods for generating dorsal foregut endoderm (DFE) cells by contacting pluripotent stem cells with a retinoic acid signaling pathway agonist and a bone morphogenetic (BMP) pathway inhibitor without exposing the stem cells to a transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) pathway agonist. In certain embodiments, the DFE cells are contacted with a retinoic acid signaling pathway agonist and a FGFR pathway inhibitor to generate pancreatic endoderm (PE) cells (e.g., with dorsal identity). In other embodiments, the PE cells are contacted with an ALK5 inhibitor and a Notch inhibitor to generate endocrine cells (e.g., insulin expressing endocrine cells). In certain embodiments, compositions, systems, kits, and methods are provided for generating anterior domain endoderm (ADE) cells.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods, kits, and compositions for: i) detecting the level of 3-bromotyrosine in a sample that has been treated to liberate 3-bromotyrosine from 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine, and/or ii) detecting the level of 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine, and/or the combined level of both 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine and 3-bromotyrosine, in a sample that has not been treated to liberate 3-bromotyrosine from 4-O-glucuronide-3-bromotyrosine. In certain embodiments, such detected levels are used to: i) identify the presence, severity, or risk of an eosinophilic disorder (e.g., asthma or a TH2-high eosinophilic disorder); ii) identify therapy effective for treating asthma or an eosinophilic disorder; or iii) identify patients suitable for treatment with therapeutic agents targeted to asthma or an eosinophilic disorder.

Abstract: A stent graft (2) for placement in the thoracic arch of a patient has a first tubular body portion (6) with a first lumen therein for placement in the ascending aorta of a patient and a second tubular body portion (8) to extend along the thoracic arch and down the descending aorta. The second tubular body portion is of a lesser diameter than the first tubular body portion. There is a step portion (10) between the first body portion and the second body portion. The step portion is joined to and continuous with the first portion and the second portion. A first side of each of the first body portion, the step portion and the second body portion are substantially aligned so that there is a step (18) defined on a second side opposite to the first side of the body portion. There is an aperture (30) in the step portion and an internal tube (32) extending from the aperture towards the first body portion. The internal tube is divided along part of its length into at least two smaller internal tubes (34, 36) with the smaller internal tubes opening into the first lumen.

Abstract: An apparatus for partially supporting a leaflet of a regurgitant heart valve includes at least one subvalvular device including a subvalvular supporting portion and an anchor portion. The subvalvular supporting portion and anchor portion are each at least partially formed from at least one of braided mesh strands of a first configuration, braided mesh strands of a second configuration, a balloon, a plurality of longitudinally extending struts, and a plurality of laterally extending struts. A connector neck is interposed longitudinally between, and is attached to both of, the subvalvular supporting portion and the anchor portion. The connector neck penetrates longitudinally through at least one of a base of the leaflet and an annulus of the heart valve at a manufactured puncture site.

Abstract: The effects of acute toxicity from a radiation procedure can be reduced without altering the radiation dose. Instead, a radiation procedure can be weighted to deliver certain amounts of radiation per day through temporal feathering. A target volume for a radiation procedure can be determined based on at least one image. The radiation procedure includes a total dose of radiation to be administered in a time period. An organ outside of the target volume at risk of acute toxicity from the radiation procedure can be determined based on the at least one image. A sequence plan that ensures the total dose of radiation is administered in the time period can be calculated. The sequence plan includes one day of a high fractional dose of radiation and four days of a low fractional dose of radiation. The sequence accomplishes temporal feathering of the radiation therapy procedure.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to estimating an interior diameter of a hollow organ. As such, one aspect of the present disclosure relates to a system that can include a light-based distance sensor and a device housing the light-based distance sensor located within the hollow organ. The light-based distance sensor can include an emitter and a detector. The emitter can transmit a conical beam of light to an inner surface of a hollow organ. The detector can receive a portion of the light back-reflected from the inner surface of the hollow organ. The device can determine a volume of the hollow organ based on a signal related to the back-reflected portion of the light, which can be based on a distance between the light-based distance sensor and the inner surface of the hollow organ.

Abstract: A ventilator conduit for a reversible airway device (RAD) is provided. The RAD can include a supra-glottic support member connected to a tubular guide (TG) having oppositely disposed proximal and distal end portions and TG lumen, which extends between the ends and is defined by an inner surface. The RAD can be physically free of an endotracheal tube. The ventilator conduit can include a hollow tube having first and second ends, and a ventilator conduit lumen extending between the ends. The first and second ends can be adapted for connection to a ventilator circuit and insertion into the TG lumen, respectively. At least the second end of the hollow tube can be sized and dimensioned so that, upon insertion into the TG, an outer surface of the second end is brought into direct contact with a portion of the inner surface to form an air-tight seal therebetween.
