Abstract: An adhesive composition is described comprising at least one cyclic imide monomer comprising an unsaturated carbonyl. The adhesive composition is a polymerizable composition or a polymerized composition. The polymerizable adhesive composition may comprise at least one monomer, oligomer, polymer, or a combination thereof comprising ethylenically unsaturated groups and/or an epoxy resin. The cyclic imide monomer may comprise an imide group with an α, β-unsaturated carbonyl in a heterocyclic ring wherein the ring comprises at least 6 covalently bonded atoms. Also described are methods of forming an adhesive coated substrate and articles.

Abstract: A free-radically polymerizable crosslinker comprising divalent segments Z represented by the formula (I). Abstract: A stretchable conductor includes a substrate with a first major surface, wherein the substrate is an elastomeric material. An elongate wire is on the first major surface of the substrate; the wire includes a first end and a second end, and further includes at least one arcuate region between the first end and the second end. At least one portion of the arcuate region of the wire in the region has a first surface area portion embedded in the surface of the substrate and a second surface area portion unembedded on the substrate and exposed in an amount sufficient to render at least an area of the substrate in the region electrically conductive. The unembedded second surface portion of the arcuate region may lie above or below a plane of the substrate. Composite articles including a stretchable conductor in durable electrical contact with a conductive fabric are also disclosed.

Abstract: A continuous method of manufacturing adhesives is provided. The method includes obtaining an actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition disposed on a major surface of an actinic radiation-transparent substrate and irradiating a first portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a first irradiation dosage. The method further includes moving the actinic radiation-transparent substrate and irradiating a second portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate for a second irradiation dosage. Optionally, the method also includes irradiating a third portion of the actinic radiation-polymerizable adhesive precursor composition through the actinic radiation-transparent substrate prior to moving the substrate. The first irradiation dosage and the third irradiation dosage are often not the same, thereby forming an integral adhesive having a variable thickness in an axis normal to the actinic radiation-transparent substrate.

Abstract: A curable composition that includes a urethane multifunctional (meth)acrylate, an inorganic filler having a primary particle dimension of at least 200 nm, a photoinitiator system that can be activated by electromagnetic radiation in the range of 340-550 nm, a reactive diluent, and a reinforcing silica having a primary particle dimension of 100 nm of less. The sum of the absolute value of the difference in the refractive index of the filler and the refractive index of the composition cured without filler plus the birefringence of the filler is 0.054 or less, i.e. 0.054≥|nfiller−nmatrix|+δfiller, where nfiller is the refractive index of the filler, nmatrix is the refractive index of the composition cured without filler, and δfiller is the birefringence of the filler.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a polymeric material including a reaction product of a polymerizable composition and having a solids content of 90% or greater. The polymerizable composition includes a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself, a first hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group, and a second hydroxyl-containing compound having more than one OH group. The first hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol, plus the second hydroxyl-containing compound is a diol and the reaction product contains 0.2 to 0.5, inclusive, of diol equivalents relative to isocyanate equivalents. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which the polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part includes at least one amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of making a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions according to the present disclosure can be used as coatings and adhesive systems with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water.
