Abstract: An orthodontic appliance may include an archwire and multiple orthodontic brackets. The archwire may fit within a human mouth and contain multiple male connectors. Each orthodontic bracket may have a configuration that facilitates attaching the orthodontic bracket to a single tooth. Each orthodontic bracket may allow one of the male connectors to be locked into the orthodontic bracket with a snapping action. The male connector may be unable to slide with respect to the orthodontic bracket after being locked in the orthodontic bracket. A manual unlocking action may allow the male connector to disengage from the orthodontic bracket.

Abstract: A method for repairing a bone defect of a patient includes providing a ceramic scaffold configured for filling the bone defect, loading the scaffold with growth factor transduced cells incorporating a gene that encodes a growth factor essential for bone formation, placing the ceramic scaffold with the growth factor transduced cells in or across the bone defect, and stabilizing the ceramic scaffold with the growth factor transduced cells in the patient until the bone defect is healed. An assembly for repairing a bone defect includes a ceramic scaffold configured for spanning the bone defect and a culture of live growth factor transduced cells incorporating a gene that encodes a growth factor essential for bone formation loaded onto the ceramic scaffold.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for additive manufacturing using stereolithography (“SLA”) materials. The apparatus includes a platform for holding an assembly of SLA resin layers. The apparatus also includes a platform for holding an assembly of SLA resin layers. The apparatus also includes a first movable stage for depositing and curing a portion of the liquid SLA resin on the platform, forming a pattern of cured SLA resin. The apparatus also includes a second movable stage for depositing a low-viscosity non-SLA material in voids in the pattern of cured SLA resin. The apparatus also includes a cooler for cooling the low-viscosity non-SLA material below its freezing point until solidified.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and techniques relating to computer numerical control (CNC) additive manufacturing. According to an aspect, a tooltip for an additive manufacturing machine includes: an input end configured to receive light from an optical system; and an output end configured to deliver the light to a workpiece on a build platform in the additive manufacturing machine; wherein the output end of the tooltip is configured to be immersed in a liquid resin in a tank of the additive manufacturing machine, and the output end defines a linear opening through which the light is delivered to the workpiece on the build platform.
