Abstract:
The present invention discloses a system and method for self-cleaning filters without having to open the filter housing. Wash nozzles are integrated with the filter housings such that when the filters are clogged, both back-wash and regular washing can be performed with practically no down time. Moreover, without opening the filter housing, the hazardous components of the fluid to be filtered can be contained and dealt with before they escape the filter housing, thereby significantly reduces the environmental impact and harm to the working crew.
Abstract:
A filter element (1) for filtering fluids, such as hydraulic fluids or gases, is in a filter housing (12) having an inlet (18) for the fluid to be filtered, an outlet (20) for the filtered fluid. The filter element has a data storage (52). Data stored in the data storage (52) is electronically readable from the data storage (52) by a read and/or write device (70). An antenna (60) extends outside the data storage (52) and provides the signal coupling between the data storage (52) and the read and/or write device (70). The antenna (60) extends at least in sections about a longitudinal axis (44) of the filter element (1) such that independently from the angular position of the filter element (1) and the attached data storage (52) a signal coupling between the data storage (52) and the read and/or write device (70) is ensured.
Abstract:
A device monitors an obstruction of two fluid filters of a fluid circulation system of a gas turbine engine of an aircraft. A first obstruction sensor sends a first detection signal of an obstruction of a first filter. A second obstruction sensor sends a second detection signal of an obstruction of a second filter. A processor includes a monitoring input to measure the first and second detection signals. The first obstruction sensor includes a Wheatstone bridge including a strain gauge resistor. The second obstruction sensor is connected in parallel with the strain gauge resistor. The first detection signal is sent over a first predetermined variation range. The second detection signal is sent over a second predetermined variation range, distinct from the first variation range. The processor identifies the obstruction of one of the fluid filters as a function of one of the variation ranges of the detection signals.
Abstract:
This invention encompasses embodiments for multi-modal integrated simultaneous measurement of various aspects of fluids contained in circulating systems such as automotive reciprocating engines and vehicle transmissions. These circulating systems perform constant internal lubrication, and heat and contaminant removal to protect the internal moving parts from the inherent friction and damage in normal operation. Most commonly this is achieved with fluids based on hydrocarbon and/or related synthetics, which, over time, can lose their protective properties, and vary in their performance or breakdown/decay due to internal and external events. Several components within the lubricant fluid can be measured and can provide insight into the efficacy of the system to perform its designed mission. Described herein is a real-time, simultaneous, integrated, multi-modal sensor system for early warning notification that can be further enhanced using specifically designed nanoparticles that can be introduced into the system, engineered to specifically bind with the contaminants and/or undergo an irreversible state change upon certain experienced conditions to both increase the detectability as well as provide for a framework to improve filter performance.
Abstract:
A system for monitoring a filter used for filtering a fluid in an aircraft engine. The system includes a pressure sensor acquiring over time a differential pressure of the fluid through the filter; a computer for computing a normalized differential pressure under reference conditions by normalizing the measured differential pressure according to conditions for exploiting the fluid; a memory for storing a predetermined reference clogging curve describing a time-dependent change of the normalized differential pressure depending on a pollutant mass injected into the filter. The computer can estimate the pollutant mass injected into the filter by projecting a current value of the normalized differential pressure onto the reference clogging curve; and can generate from the estimated pollutant mass a set of signatures defining the condition and the time-dependent change of clogging of the filter.
Abstract:
A filtration system and methods to remove solids contained in a fluid is disclosed. In one embodiment a system includes: a housing; a screen filter adapted to remove solids from a fluid, the filter having openings through which fluid, separated from solids, can pass as a filtered fluid and on which solids are captured on a surface of the filter; flow control valves adapted to open and close to control fluid flow; a controller electronically coupled to the flow control valves and adapted to actuate the flow control valves to reverse a fluid flow direction, thereby adapted to push separated solids away from the screen; and a differential pressure switch adapted to monitor a differential pressure developed across the screen as the screen openings are blocked by solids contained within the fluid and communicate a measured differential pressure to the controller to indicate when to actuate the valves.
Abstract:
An oil management system and oil filter utilized in association with an internal combustion engine. The oil filter comprises high-efficiency filtration media for filtering engine oil associated with the internal combustion engine. At least one type of time release additive can be impregnated into the filtration media, wherein the time release additives are automatically released into the engine oil filter from filtration media in order to replenish additives already present in the engine oil. Additionally, a sensor module can be provided that monitors oil quality and oil filter efficiency through detecting one or more attributes of the engine oil filtered through the filtration media of oil filter in order to efficiently conserve and manage the oil and reduce the interval of oil changes thereof by extending the life of the engine oil through the replenishment of the additives present in the engine oil and higher filtration effectiveness of the filter.
Abstract:
A fluid treatment system is provided, the system including a fluid treatment cartridge for treating fluid passing therethrough. The cartridge has an inlet through which untreated fluid enters the cartridge and an outlet from which treated fluid exits the cartridge. The cartridge also has a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag for storing data. The fluid treatment system also includes a connection manifold configured to detachably support the fluid treatment cartridge. The connection manifold has an inlet flow path for directing untreated fluid to the inlet of the cartridge and an outlet flow path for directing treated fluid from the outlet of the cartridge, and a data sensor for reading data stored on the RFID tag. The fluid treatment system further includes means for evaluating the data stored on the RFID tag and read by the data sensor, as well as means for deterring fluid treatment system use based upon the evaluation of the data stored on the RFID tag and read by the data sensor.
