Abstract:
Emulsions and products thereof are provided. The emulsions at least include an oil component having a viscosity that is 150 centistokes at 40° C. or greater, a surfactant, and water. The emulsion components are processed by mixing with multiple and simultaneous mixing operations including at high and low shear mixing rates. The emulsions can be utilized in a variety of products including lubricants and concentrates thereof suitable for use in a number of applications including lubricant-based applications, such as metal working processes.
Abstract:
Cyclic oligomers derivable from the copolymerization of isobutylene and isoprene can be hydrogenated to form 1-(2,2,4-trimethylpentyl)-2-isopropyl-3,3,5,5-tetramethylcyclohexane and related compounds, which are useful in lubricants such as a traction fluids.
Abstract:
A coating and bonding composition is disclosed which includes a suspending agent, bonding agent, thinning agent, and a particulate fluoride anti-seize agent designed to bond a particulate fluoride film to the thread surface to prevent seizing and galling. A anti-seize lubricating composition is also disclosed where an environmentally friendly lubricating composition is applied as a top coat to the bonding composition and to methods for making and using the compositions.
Abstract:
A phthalic acid such as terephthalic acid is made soluble in an oil of lubricating viscosity by first mixing it with at least one phosphorus compound. The resulting product is useful for reducing corrosion in a transmission lubricant.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a stable, soluble, antimicrobial composition concentrate comprising pyrithione or a pyrithione complex in an amount of from about 0.5% to about 30 weight percent, a zinc source in an amount of from about 0.1% to about 10%, and an organic amine component in an amount of from about 30% to about 80%, said percents being based upon the total weight of the composition concentrate. The invention is also directed to methods of controlling the growth of free-living microorganisms or biofilms using the antimicrobial composition of the invention, and products made using the antimicrobial composition of the invention.
Abstract:
Enhanced fretting resistance, high-speed capability, and service live are achieved by a roller bearing comprised of a plurality of rolling elements held between inner and outer races with a cage interposed therebetween, and wherein oil film of lubricating oil of which the dynamic viscosity at 40° C. is 20 to 150 mm2/s, and which preferably contains an extreme pressure agent and a corrosion preventing agent, is formed on the raceway surfaces of the inner and outer races, the cage and the rolling elements and grease is enclosed.
Abstract:
The invention teaches the preparation of a concentrated sanitizing, cleaning and lubricating preparation. The preparation has a dual use for cleaning, sanitizing as well as lubricating beverage conveyors. The composition of the invention shows rapid microbicidal properties against representative gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. The invention uses GRAS, food additive ingredients and/or ingredients that are approved by the USFDA for use on food.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to the field of metal conversion surfaces, in particular, the creation of a phosphate-metal chemisorbed layer for iron and aluminum parts as well as to other metal substrates capable of forming a conversion surface. A phosphorus-containing solution is brought into contact with the metal components such that a conversion surface is formed.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms “first Group A” and “second Group B” are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.
Abstract:
This invention provides phyllosilicates and polyfunctional dispersants which can be manipulated to selectively control the viscosity of phyllosilicate slurries. The polyfunctional dispersants used in the present invention, which include at least three functional groups, increase the dispersion and exfoliation of phyllosilicates in polymers and, when used in conjunction with phyllosilicate slurries, significantly reduce the viscosity of slurries having high concentrations of phyllosilicates. The functional groups of the polyfunctional dispersants are capable of associating with multivalent metal cations and low molecular weight organic polymers, which can be manipulated to substantially increase or decrease the viscosity of the slurry in a concentration dependent manner. The polyfunctional dispersants of the present invention can also impart desirable properties on the phyllosilicate dispersions including corrosion inhibition and enhanced exfoliation of the phyllosilicate platelets.
