Abstract: A process for increasing alcohol yield from biomass (the form or agro- or forest residue, grains, hops, etc.), involving multiple hydrodynamic cavitation treatments of biomass filtrate—both before and after fermentation. Carbohydrates extracted from biomass are subjected to a first cavitation treatment to promote additional conversion into carbohydrates. The carbohydrates are then combined with bacterial species and nutrients, and allowed to ferment. The fermentation product is subjected to a second hydrodynamic cavitation treatment to promote further conversion of carbohydrates into bioalcohol. After distillation, the bioalcohol is subjected to a second hydrodynamic cavitation treatment to increase its purity.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for processing cellulosic and lignocellulosic materials and useful intermediates and products, such as energy and fuels. For example, irradiating methods and systems are described to aid in the processing of the cellulosic and lignocellulosic materials. The electron beam accelerator has multiple windows foils and these foils are cooled with cooling gas. In one configuration a secondary foil is integral to the electron beam accelerator and in another configuration the secondary foil is part of the enclosure for the biomass conveying system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing cellulosic sugar from biomass by effective impurity removal and sugar separation, and more particularly to a method for producing cellulosic sugar from biomass. The method includes pretreating the biomass so as to be separated into a solid and a liquid; subjecting the separated liquid to monomerization, concentration and adsorption processes, thereby obtaining xylose; and subjecting the separated solid to second pretreatment, saccharification and lignin separation processes, thereby obtaining glucose. The method allows fermentation inhibitory substances to be removed from pretreated biomass in a cost- and energy-effective process, and is useful for effective production of cellulosic sugar.
