Multistrand metal cable of 4×(4+M) construction, which can especially be used for reinforcing tire belts for industrial vehicles, formed from four elementary strands assembled in a helix with a helix pitch P3, each elementary strand consisting of a two-layer cable of 4+M construction comprising an inner layer C1 formed from four wires of diameter D1, assembled in a helix with a pitch P1, and an unsaturated outer layer C2 of M wires, M being greater than or equal to 8 and smaller than or equal to 11, of diameter D2, these being assembled in a helix with a pitch P2 around the inner layer C1, P1 being smaller than P2, the four wires of the inner layer C1 being wound in a helix in the same twist direction as the M wires of the outer layer C2, and wherein each of the diameters D1 and D2 is greater than or equal to 0.10 mm but less than or equal to 0.50 mm.

A steel cord (10) for reinforcing rubber product comprises at least one core strand (12) and outer strands (14), the outer strands (14) are helically twisted around at least one core strand (12). Each of the strands (12, 14) comprises core steel filaments (16, 20) with the number of m and outer steel filaments with the number of n. The diameter of the core steel filaments in the core strand is Dcc, the diameter of the outer steel filaments in the core strand is Doc, the diameter of the core steel filament in the outer strand is Dco, and the diameter of the outer steel filament in the outer strand is Doo. The ratio of Dcc/Doc is not less than 1.04, the ratio of Dco/Doo is not less than 1.03, and the ratio of Doc/Dco is not less than 1. The core steel filaments and outer steel filaments are polygonally preformed before being twisted into strands. The steel cord is used for reinforcing off-the-road tire.

A tire having a radial carcass reinforcement, comprised of at least one layer of metal reinforcing elements, said tire comprising a crown reinforcement, which is itself covered radially with a tread, said tread being joined to two beads via two sidewalls. The metal reinforcing elements of at least one layer of the carcass reinforcement are non-hooped cords having, in the permeability test, a flow rate of less than 20 cm3/min and at least one layer of the carcass reinforcement being provided on at least one side with at least one layer of textile threads of straight orientation and said textile threads forming an angle with the direction of the metal reinforcing elements of said at least one carcass reinforcement layer of more than 10°.

Method of manufacturing a metal cable having two layers (Ci, Ce) of construction M+N, comprising an inner layer (Ci) having M wires of diameter d1 wound together in a helix at a pitch p1, M varying from 2 to 4, and an outer layer (Ce) of N wires of diameter d2, wound together in a helix at a pitch p2 around the inner layer (Ci), the method comprising the following steps performed in line: a step of assembling the M core wires by twisting to form the inner layer (Ci) at a point of assembling; downstream of the point of assembling of the M core wires, a step of sheathing the inner layer (Ci) with a diene rubber composition called “filling rubber”, in the raw state; a step of assembling the N wires of the outer layer (Ce) by twisting around the inner layer (Ci) thus sheathed; and a step of twist balancing. Also disclosed is a device for implementing such a method.

The present invention relates to a metal cable usable for reinforcing a carcass reinforcement for a tire, such as a heavy-vehicle tire, to a composite fabric usable as a ply for such a carcass reinforcement, to a carcass reinforcement comprising this fabric and to a tire incorporating this carcass reinforcement.A metal cable according to the invention comprises a textile wrap, and is such that said wrap is formed of an aromatic thermotropic polyester or polyester amide.A composite fabric according to the invention is such that it comprises a rubber composition which is reinforced by said cables.A tire according to the invention has its carcass reinforcement comprising said composite fabric.

A hybrid flexible wire shaft having an inner portion with the characteristics of a push/pull shaft having at least one layer of wire groups helically wound on a core wire at a relatively high pitch angle, and an outer portion with the characteristics of a torsional transmission flexible shaft having two or more layers of wire groups wound on the central portion at a relatively low pitch angle. Each layer of the outer group is wound in a direction opposite to the wind direction of each adjacent layer of that group. In an alternate construction, the high and low pitch portions are reversed and an additional outer layer is provided which is wound in a direction opposite to the outermost layer of the high pitch portion.

The present invention provides structure of steel cord in heavy duty tires, in which the adhesive strength between filament and rubber, and penetrating property of rubber are improved by making the twist direction of core and strand different in the steel cord comprising core and strand filament, and by making the pitch or the twist period of core and strand different. In particular, this structure is applied to steel cord of 3+8*d(HT) which is used in heavy duty tires. In this application, twist direction of core filament is in the S direction and twist direction of strand filament is in the Z direction, and the ratio of the pitch of core filament (CP) and the pitch of strand filament (SP) is between 0.50 and 0.94.

A steel cord for the reinforcement of rubber articles has a two-layer construction in which a core consists of two steel filaments and a sheath arranged around the core consists of nine steel filaments. Preferably the two steel filaments constituting the core are either non-twisted filaments or are twisted at a pitch of not less than 30 mm on average, a ratio (ds/dc) of the diameter ds of each steel filament constituting the sheath to the diameter dc of each steel filament constituting the core is within a range of 35-80%, and a ratio (a/b) of the minor diameter a to the major diameter b of the cord cross-section in an arbitrary position in the longitudinal direction of the cord is within a range of 63-100%

Process for producing a steel cord for pneumatic tires comprising a bunch of wires, the core of which consists of wire filaments 10 arranged bunched juxtaposed in parallel. Preferably at least three wire filaments 10, 20 are provided, at least two wire filaments located juxtaposed in parallel being spirally shaped as core filaments 10 forming a core 60 and at least one wire filament spirally surrounding the two core filaments 10 as a sheathing wire 20. Spirally shaping the wire filaments 10 is achieved in accordance with the invention by false twisters 40. Due to this spiral shaping of the wire filaments 10 migration of the filaments from the core composite is avoided more particularly. The residual torsional stresses of the core filaments among each other and in conjunction with the restoring forces of the sheathing wire are advantageously cancelled. In addition, the steel cord features to advantage a flattened, more particularly, oval shape.
