Abstract:
A metal-made seamless pipe is provided, containing at least one metal selected from the group consisting of metals each having a melting point of 1,600null C. or more, and has a porosity of 0.3 to 25%. The porosity is defined as a ratio of the open pores present at the outer surface of the pipe to the total surface area of the outer surface of the pipe. The open pores do not include through-pores perforating to the inner surface of the pipe. A process for producing such a metal-made seamless pipe is also provided. The metal-made seamless pipe is low in processability but can be produced having a small thickness and a small inner diameter, having superior mechanical strength and gastightness, and can be suitably used as a sealing member of a translucent vessel of a high-pressure discharge lamp.

Abstract:
A short arc discharge lamp in which the arc tube contains opposed cathode and anode electrodes with upholding parts that are inserted into a respective glass tube holding cylinder, and in which the glass tubes of the holding cylinders are secured in the side tubes at opposite sides of the arc tube by contracted areas, provides the peripheral surface of the holding cylinders with at least one section of reduced diameter to prevent the holding cylinders from moving, to prevent force from acting in a concentrated manner on the sealed areas and to prevent the lamp from being damaged when the lamp is shaken during transport or the like.
Abstract:
The high-pressure discharge lamp comprises a sealed lamp vessel (1) having a quartz glass wall (2) enclosing a discharge space (3). Metal foils (4) are embedded in the wall, connected to electrode rods (6) projecting from the wall into the discharge space. The electrode rods (6) have a first part (7a) and a second part (7b) with a diameter of between 250 and 350 &mgr;m and at least an envelope (7c) made of rhenium. The second part, which is positioned within the wall (2), prevents premature failure of the lamp caused by leakage.
Abstract:
A metal halide lamp including a discharge tube of a transparent ceramic in which a discharge metal and a buffer gas are sealed, the discharge tube having electrodes at both ends thereof, including a discharge portion, slender tube portions provided at both ends of the discharge portion, into which feedthroughs including the electrodes and lead-in wires are inserted, and slender tube sealing portions in which gaps between the slender tube portions and the feedthroughs are sealed with a sealing material, an outer tube containing the discharge tube, and a transparent protecting cylinder provided inside the outer tube so as to surround the discharge tube is provided. At least one of the slender tube sealing portions is exposed beyond the protecting cylinder. This provides a metal halide lamp that suppresses leaks in a discharge tube sealing portion while maintaining high efficiency and high color rendition by using a ceramic discharge tube, and that is tolerant of an external shock.
Abstract:

A ceramic arc tube for high intensity discharge (HID) lighting applications is provided wherein the arc tube contains a high buffer gas pressure. A method and apparatus for making the arc tube are also provided wherein RF induction heating is used to melt a frit material to form a hermetic seal.
Abstract:
A high-pressure discharge lamp having an arc tube that includes a main tube part and a pair of capillary tube parts is provided. The main tube part includes a pair of electrodes and a metal halide enclosed, and the pair of capillary tube parts is arranged at the of the main tube part. The pair of capillary tube parts is sealed by means of a seal member to a different one of the feeders, and supplies electricity to each of the electrodes. At least one of the feeders includes a first conductive member that is resistant to halides and sealed to the capillary tube part, and a second conductive member that is connected to the first conductive member outside the capillary tube part and fixed at an outer end of the capillary tube part by means of the seal member.
Abstract:
A high pressure discharge lamp comprises a vessel made of a non-conductive material which forms an inner space filled with an ionizable light-emitting material and a starting gas. The vessel has an opening portion at one end thereof. A tubular member is arranged at the opening portion of the vessel and has an outer diameter which is substantially the same as an inner diameter of the first opening portion. An electrode unit is inserted into the tubular member and has an outer diameter which is smaller than an inner diameter of the tubular member. A stopper is arranged between the tubular member and the electrode unit and has an outer diameter which is substantially the same as the inner diameter of the tubular member. The stopper has a hole into which the electrode unit is inserted. A frit seal is filled in a gap which is formed by the tubular member, the stopper and the electrode unit. The stopper defines an inner end position of the frit seal in the tubular member.
