Abstract: A method of designing a virtual 3D model of a dental restoration for a target site of a patient's set of teeth, the method including-obtaining a digital 3D representation of the set of teeth, the digital 3D representation comprising a section corresponding to the target site; determining an insertion path for the dental restoration to the target site; and designing the virtual 3D model of the dental restoration based on the digital 3D representation of the set of teeth, where the designing includes generating an outer surface of the virtual 3D model, where the determined insertion path and the outer surface of the designed virtual 3D model provide that a dental restoration manufactured from the designed virtual 3D model can be moved along the insertion path to the target site.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a dental restoration for a patient, where the method includes: obtaining a 3D scan of at least a restoration site of the patient's mouth, where the manufactured dental restoration is adapted for fitting to the restoration site; obtaining a CAD design of the dental restoration; milling the restoration from a material, where the restoration is milled both on an inside surface configured for fitting to the shape of the restoration site of the patient's mouth and on an outside surface, where the milling is according to the obtained CAD design; transferring the milled restoration to a retention means providing a fixed known position of the restoration relative to a post-processing machinery, where the restoration is retained on the inside surface, such that the outside surface of the restoration is approachable/free/accessible; and performing post-processing of the outside surface of the restoration.

Abstract: A method for visualizing a 3D dental restoration on a 2D image of the mouth of a patient includes obtaining a 3D dental model of at least a part of the patient's oral cavity, designing the 3D dental restoration, obtaining the 2D image of the mouth of the patient, estimating a virtual camera including at least one virtual camera property corresponding to at least one physical camera property of the physical camera used to obtain the 2D image, viewing the 3D dental restoration using the virtual camera, determining the visible area of the 3D dental restoration, which is not overlapped by surrounding anatomic features when viewed with the virtual camera, imaging the visible area of the 3D dental restoration with the 2D image. This advantageously provides an image which with high accuracy gives the dentist and the patient a visual presentation of the final result of a dental treatment.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for digitally designing a dental restoration, wherein a 3D representation of at least a part of the upper or lower jaw is obtained. The 3D representation represents at least a target site for placing the final restoration and at least one antagonist tooth opposing the target site. Furthermore a digital anatomy design of the restoration is provided. The digital anatomy is based at least on a dynamic occlusion and a relative offset of the planned restoration position. Accordingly, a restoration may be designed that does not interrupt the natural occlusion.
