Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for testing and compensating for pixel degradation in an electronic display based on current and voltage values sensed in a reference array. An electronic display includes an active array, a reference array, and sensing circuitry. A compensation manager obtains current data values of the reference array from the sensing circuitry. The compensation manager generates a current-voltage curve based on the current data and adjusts the current-voltage curve to compensate for variations in temperature and/or pixel brightness. In this way, the compensation manager may improve performance of the electronic display by, for example, by reducing visible anomalies.

Abstract: An electronic device that includes a display and an eye tracker configured to collect eye tracking data regarding a gaze of one or more of a user's eyes across the display. The electronic device also includes processing circuitry that is operatively coupled to the display and configured to generate pixel data for frames of content based at least in part on the eye tracking data such that the content is configured to be shown on the display in a dynamically foveated manner. The processing circuitry is also configured to apply a dither pattern to the frames of content independent of the gaze of one or more of the user's eyes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improving perceived image quality with reduced implementation associated cost and/or improved operational efficiency. A display pipeline includes an input buffer that stores input image data corresponding with an image pixel window, in which the input image data has a first bit-depth and includes image data corresponding with an image pixel in the image pixel window. The display pipeline includes bit-depth adjustment circuitry, which includes a neural network that operates based on a set of bit-depth adjustment parameters to process the input image data to determine whether banding greater than a perceivability threshold is expected to result when the image is displayed directly using the input image data with the first bit-depth and to process the image data corresponding with the image pixel to expand the image data from the first bit-depth to a second bit-depth when the banding visual artifact is greater than the perceivability threshold.

Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have displays that are viewable by the eyes of a viewer through adjustable lenses. The adjustable lenses may be liquid crystal lenses. A camera and other sensors in the head-mounted device may monitor the eyes of the user and gather other information. Control circuitry in the head-mounted device may control the adjustable lenses based on measured characteristics of the eyes of the user such as interpupillary distance and direction-of-view. The control circuitry may match the distance between the centers of the adjustable lenses to the measured interpupillary distance and may align the lens centers with the measured direction-of-view. The adjustable lenses may have transparent electrodes that are supplied with time-varying control signals by the control circuitry.

Abstract: A display device may include a display having a plurality of pixels. The display device may also include a replica pixel circuit having a switching device configured to output a first current based on a received voltage, a light-emitting diode (LED) configured to illuminate to a first gray level based on the first current output by the switching device, and current mirror circuitry configured to generate a second current that mirrors the first current. In addition, the replica pixel circuit may include a current source configured to output a reference current based on a voltage value that corresponds to the received voltage, comparator circuitry configured to determine a difference between the second current and the reference current, and voltage adjustment circuitry configured to adjust a source voltage output provided to the plurality of pixels based on the difference.
