Such video pre-processing techniques may include applying adaptive temporal and spatial filtering to pixel values of video frames of input video to generate pre-processed video such that the adaptive temporal and spatial filtering includes blending spatial and temporal filtering of the individual pixel value when the block of pixels is a non-motion block and spatial-only filtering the individual pixel value when the block of pixels is a motion block.

A gaze tracker identifies a gaze region where a viewer(s) is looking to increase a refresh rate for segments identified in the gaze region with relation to segments outside of the gaze region. The shading rate of segments outside of the gaze region may also be lowered to save even more power.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems may provide for a video transmitter that generates a primary bitstream based on a video signal, wherein the primary bitstream is encoded with subsampled chroma information, and detects a static condition with respect to the video signal. Additionally, a plurality of auxiliary bitstreams may be generated, in response to the static condition, based on the video signal. Each of the plurality of auxiliary bitstreams may be encoded with full resolution chroma information. In one example, a video receiver may detect that the auxiliary bitstreams are associated with the primary bitstream, decode the primary bitstream and the plurality of auxiliary bitstreams to obtain luma information and the full resolution chroma information, and multiplex the luma information with the full resolution chroma information.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods may include a source device that generates a scene change notification in response to a movement of a camera, modifies an encoding scheme associated with the video content captured by the camera in response to the scene change notification, identifies a full-frame difference threshold, wherein scene analysis information includes frame difference data, and compares the frame difference data to an intermediate threshold that is less than the full-frame difference threshold, wherein the scene change notification is generated when the frame difference data exceeds the intermediate threshold. A sink device may obtain transport quality data associated with video content, modify an output parameter of a display based on the transport quality data, determine a view perspective of a still image containing a plurality of image slices, retrieve only a subset of the plurality of image slices based on the view perspective and decode the retrieved subset.

Abstract: An example apparatus for encoding video frames includes a mask selector to select a subset of visual masks according to an actual target compression ratio and GOP configuration and a complexity estimator to estimate a picture level spatial/temporal complexity for a current frame. The example apparatus further includes a GOP adaptive visual mask selector to specify a visual mask from the subset of the visual masks corresponding to the estimated spatial and temporal complexity value a good enough picture QP deriver to derive a good enough picture QP value using the visual mask. The example apparatus also includes an adjustor to adjust the good enough picture QP value based on block level human visual system sensitivity and statistics of already encoded frames to obtain a final human visual system QP map.
