Abstract: Techniques and systems for neutralizing discharge waters from ballast and/or cooling water biocidal treatment and disinfection systems are provided. The systems utilize, inter alia, oxidation reduction potential control to regulate the dechlorination of an electrocatalytically generated biocidal agent to allowable discharge levels in ship buoyancy systems and ship cooling water systems.

Abstract: A dual faucet with a sterile water and general water supply function includes a faucet body including a body portion, a sterile water outlet faucet connected to the body portion and through which sterile water comes, and a regular water outlet faucet connected to the body portion near the sterile water outlet faucet and through which raw water supplied from a raw water pipe line comes, and a sterile water supply unit including a casing, and an electrolytic bath module disposed in the casing and configured to produce sterile water by electrolysis of the raw water supplied from the raw water pipe line and supply the produced sterile water to the sterile water outlet faucet, wherein the operation of the electrolytic bath module is controlled to adjust an ion concentration of the sterile water according to a measured internal voltage value or a measured internal current value.

Abstract: A process of making an alkaline water and acidic water wherein the step of dissolving the alkaline salt in the initial stream is further defined as adding the alkaline salt of a lower alkyl carboxylic acid of sodium propionate to the initial stream. The step of electrolyzing the feed stream further includes a step of applying an electric potential between the cathode and the anode. The step of applying the electrical potential is further defined as applying the electrical potential of between 0.5V and 50 V between the cathode and the anode. The alkaline water composition produced by the process includes zero hydroxide ions and defines a total alkalinity between 40 ppm and 510 ppm. The alkaline water also has a TDS between 58 ppm and 1000 ppm, a pH between 10.0 and 12.0, a hardness rating between 3.5 and 10, and a Langelier Index between 0.37 and 2.20.

Abstract: A method and apparatus break down organic materials, typically contaminants, through oxidation. The method for the treatment of a volume of material, provides: a) introducing at least two electrodes into a location, the location containing the volume of material and the volume of material containing one or more species for treatment; b) providing connections between a voltage source and the at least two electrodes; c) applying a voltage of a first polarity to the connections for a first period of time, under the control of a voltage controller; d) applying a voltage of a second, reversed, polarity to the connections for a second period of time, under the control of the voltage controller; e) repeating steps c) and d) a plurality of times; preferably with steps c), d) and e) promoting oxidation of one or more of the one or more species for treatment.

Abstract: A method for electrochemical disinfection of an aqueous solution, the method comprising the steps of: providing one or more disinfecting cells for retaining an aqueous solution, each disinfecting cell including one or more electrode pairs positioned therein; arranging the one or more disinfecting cells along a flow path, the flow path including an inlet to and an outlet from the one or more disinfecting cells; determining at the one or more disinfecting cells the electrical conductivity, or specific conductance of the aqueous solution; determining from the electrical conductivity, or specific conductance of the aqueous solution a voltage to apply across the one or more electrode pairs at a current sufficient to produce disinfection species therein; and passing the current from the one or more electrode pairs to the aqueous solution to produce a modified aqueous solution.

Abstract: The wastewater treatment apparatus of present invention has an electro-coagulation unit for removing contaminants with at least one anode and at least one cathode and an electro-oxidation unit for oxidizing contaminants with at least one anode and at least one cathode wherein oxidants are electrochemically generated. Based on the type of wastewater, the apparatus can have an electro-flotation unit between the electrocoagulation unit and the electro-oxidation unit. The apparatus also has an oxidant removal unit which can have a metal ion-liberating electrode for reacting with and removing residual oxidants. In some cases, portions of effluent from the oxidant removal unit can be recirculated to the electro-coagulation unit for increased efficiency.

Abstract: A method of providing ultrapure water from feed water containing hardness forming ions, comprising at least the steps of passing the feed water successively through: (i) providing a feed water stream containing hardness forming ions: (ii) passing the feed water stream through a reverse osmosis (RO) unit to remove at least some ionic contamination to provide a RO permeate water stream: (iii) passing the RO permeate water stream though a capacitive de-ionisation (CDI) unit to remove at least some of the ions to provide a post-CDI stream: and (iv) passing the post-CDI stream through an electrodeionisation (EDI) unit to remove at least some of the ions and carbon dioxide and to provide an ultrapure water stream for dispense or storage. In this way, the capacitive deionisation provides a wholly or substantially continuous process for removing a proportion of unwanted ions, especially the hardness forming ions, from the feed water prior to the use of electrodeionisation.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for extracting polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), which comprises a pre-process step and an extraction step: removing water from waste sludge containing microorganisms in the pre-process step so that the waste sludge containing microorganisms has a water content of less than 40%; and applying a high-voltage pulsed electric field to the waste sludge during the extraction step to destroy the microorganisms and release the PHAs, wherein the high-voltage pulsed electric field is between 50 volts and 400 volts, an application time of the high-voltage pulsed electric field is between 5 seconds and 90 seconds, and an application frequency of the high-voltage pulsed electric field is between 500 Hz and 1000 Hz, thereby extracting the PHAs in the case of few chemicals.
