Abstract: Methods, computer programs and apparatus for performing a tele-operated driving session The present invention is related to methods, computer programs, and apparatus for performing a tele-operated driving session for a vehicle equipped with an automated driving function. The invention is further related to a vehicle equipped with an automated driving function, which makes use of such a method or apparatus. In a first step, a predictive quality of service for a communication between the vehicle and a control center for a route driven in a tele-operated driving session is analyzed (10). Bases on this analysis, a section of the route for which an indirect control shall be used is determined (11). Furthermore, control data to be used by the vehicle in the determined section of the route are determined (12). At least the control data are then sent (13) to the vehicle before or after initiating a tele-operated driving session with direct control of the vehicle.

Abstract: An autonomous vehicle is described herein. The autonomous vehicle comprises a first sensor and a second sensor having limited fields of view, an articulation system, and a computing system. The computing system determines a first region and a second region external to the autonomous vehicle based on a sensor prioritization scheme comprising a ranking of regions surrounding the autonomous vehicle. The computing system then causes the articulation system to orient the first sensor towards the first region and the second region towards the second region. Responsive to receiving a sensor signal from the first sensor indicating that an object has entered a field of view of the first sensor, the computing system determines a third region having a higher ranking than the second region within the sensor prioritization scheme. The computing system then causes the articulation system to orient the second sensor towards the third region.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and system for detecting road marking expressed using alternating infrared reflective tiles comprising high infrared reflective tiles and low infrared red reflective tiles painted on a road surface using paint material(s) characterized by: (1) reflecting light in visible light spectral range deviating less than a first value from the light reflected by the road surface and (2) reflecting light in an infrared spectral range deviating more than a second value from the light reflected by the road surface. Infrared image(s) and visible light image(s) of the road surface which are registered to each other may be analyzed to compute an infrared reflective value and a luminance value for each pixel respectively. A ratio may be computed between the infrared reflective value of and the luminance value of corresponding pixels to identify high and low infrared reflective tiles in pixels having a ratio exceeding a third value.

Abstract: The technology relates to autonomous vehicles for transporting cargo and/or people between locations. Distributed sensor arrangements may not be suitable for vehicles such as large trucks, busses or construction vehicles. Side view mirror assemblies are provided that include a sensor suite of different types of sensors, including LIDAR, radar, cameras, etc. Each side assembly is rigidly secured to the vehicle by a mounting element. The sensors within the assembly may be aligned or arranged relative to a common axis or physical point of the housing. This enables self-referenced calibration of all sensors in the housing. Vehicle-level calibration can also be performed between the sensors on the left and right sides of the vehicle. Each side view mirror assembly may include a conduit that provides one or more of power, data and cooling to the sensors in the housing.

Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to routing an autonomous vehicle based upon risk of takeover of the autonomous vehicle by a human operator. A computing system receives an origin location and a destination location of the autonomous vehicle. The computing system identifies a route for the autonomous vehicle to follow from the origin location to the destination location based upon output of a computer-implemented model. The computer-implemented model is generated based upon labeled data indicative of instances in which autonomous vehicles are observed to transition from operating autonomously to operating based upon conduction by human operators while the autonomous vehicles are executing predefined maneuvers. The computer-implemented model takes, as input, an indication of a maneuver in the predefined maneuvers that is performed by the autonomous vehicle when the autonomous vehicle follows a candidate route. The autonomous vehicle then follows the route from the origin location to the destination location.
