Abstract:
A cross-connect module is disclosed herein. The cross-connect module includes a housing having a front end and a rear end. The rear end includes a rear wall defining connector mounting openings. First and second switching jacks are positioned adjacent the front end of the housing. Rear connectors mount within the connector mounting openings. Cables electrically couple the rear connectors to the switching jacks. A tracer lamp circuit including a power connector and a pin jack are also provided. In depicted embodiments, the rear connectors, the pin jack and the power connector are secured to the rear wall of the housing by snap-fit connections. The depicted module also includes a front cover having structure for providing snap-fit connections with the switching devices.
Abstract:
A chassis and associated telecommunication circuit card are disclosed. The chassis has heat dissipation and flame containment features while accommodating a high density of the circuitry cards. Embodiments include an inner housing with a double-layer middle floor dividing the chassis into top and bottom chambers. Each layer has partially aligned slots, and an air gap is provided between the two layers. Embodiments also include a double-layer mesh cover with an air gap existing between the two mesh layers. Projections and grooves are provided on the inner surfaces of the inner housing to receive circuit cards having a guide on one edge and a fin on another. The guide includes an opening that at least partially aligns with slots on the adjacent surface of the inner housing. The circuit card includes a finger extending from a faceplate that facilitates insertion and removal of the circuit card relative to the chassis.
Abstract:
A subassembly includes a plurality of card guides formed to receive card assemblies and also to conduct air for cooling purposes to improve cooling of components on the card guide. The card guides are particularly formed to place the cards in a location to facilitate airflow and to more evenly distribute the airflow. The invention further includes a method for designing the card guides to achieve the stated functionality. The method of designing the card guides includes determining a first and a second volume of space that is desired in relation to the amount of expected heat that is to be generated within the first and second volumes of space.
Abstract:
An apparatus for containing objects, such as electronic circuit cards, and a method for making the same, the apparatus having a housing; at least one case disposed within the housing, the case adapted to confine the objects to different locations within the housing and comprising a frame, the region within the frame divided into two regions by a first partition, each of the two regions divided into a plurality of sections by a plurality of second partitions, each of the second partitions thermally coupled to the frame and the first partition, each of the sections divided into a plurality of slots, each slot having an object disposed therein for thermal contact between the first partition, a second partition, and one of a second partition and the frame; and at least one heat sink adapted to absorb heat from the case, the heat sink thermally coupled to the case and the housing.
Abstract:
A system includes a base unit, a plurality of connectors disposed in the base unit each operable to couple to a module, and each module operable to couple to at least one terminal unit. The system further includes a host processor residing in the base unit and coupled to a communications network, and a first high speed switch residing in the base unit having a plurality of ports coupled to the plurality of connectors and further coupled to the host processor.
Abstract:
A single backplane for a housing is provided. A plurality of sockets is disposed on a first side of the backplane, where each of the sockets is adapted to receive a repeater. A connector is disposed on a second side of the backplane and is electrically connected to each of the sockets by conductive traces disposed within the backplane. The connector is adapted to plug into a mating connector for connecting each of the plurality of sockets to input and output transmission lines.
Abstract:
An adaptive module for a cable modem termination system housing having a backplane and a card cage that is attachable to the housing is provided. Active and backup first electronic modules are disposed within the card cage and are electrically connected to the backplane. The active and backup first electronic modules are respectively electrically connectable to active and backup second electronic modules disposed within the housing, where the backup first electronic module communicates with the backup second electronic module when there is a failure within the active second electronic module. A switch/relay is disposed within the card cage and is electrically connected to the backplane. The switch/relay is adapted to enable communication between the active first electronic module and the backup second electronic module when there is a failure within the active second electronic module.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to power input housings and assemblies for power distribution panels. The power input assemblies provide separate cavities with a centerwall for the power input cables to be led into and a cover closing the cavities. The cavities allow power cables to enter through either a top open end or a bottom open end and the cover is adapted to close the other open end when installed. Alternatively, the housing can be oriented with the open ends of the cavities to the sides, permitting cables to enter through either side and the cover closing the other side.
Abstract:
A communication switch is provided for customer premise equipment. The switch comprises a communication module which processes communications between elements in the communication switch, a shelf module which has an interface point for the customer premise equipment to the communication module, and a chassis. The shelf module comprises an I/O card providing the interface point, a line processing card, a midplane providing a connections to the I/O card and the line processing card and connections for the midplane to the communication module. The shelf module communicates with the communication module via a communication link. The link may be connected and disconnected without disrupting operation of other shelf modules connected to said communication module.
Abstract:
A splitter card having integral test access devices. The splitter card allows test access to be readily provided at any location where splitter cards are typically mounted (e.g., a splitter chassis).
