Abstract:
A tri-state input detection circuit produces two binary outputs that indicate whether a tri-state input signal is high, low, or in a hi-impedance state. A pair of transistors conduct a current in response to a tri-state signal presented at an input node. Circuitry is provided to pull the input node to a known voltage when the input signal is in its hi-Z state. The transistors are series-connected to respective current sources, with the junctions between the transistors and their current sources forming the circuit's binary outputs. The output impedances of the current sources are made less than those of their respective transistors, so that when turned on by the input signal, a transistor pulls its associated output high or low. The circuit produces a unique binary output for each of the three input signal states. In a preferred embodiment, sampling pulses briefly activate the circuit, and downstream circuitry latches the circuit's outputs, reducing current consumption to zero except during the sampling period.
Abstract:
A security system and method are provided for securing user access to server tables having data arranged in rows and columns. The server table is contained in a server computer which is accessible by a plurality of user terminals joined thereto. The server computer includes relational database software for creating and maintaining tables, including the server table, and views defining subsets of the tables. A security table is stored in the computer for identifying authorized user access to preselected rows of the server table for pre-identified users. An access view is stored in the computer for automatically joining the security and server tables to limit user access to the server table to the preselected rows thereof based on the security table. A single security table may therefore be used and is readily updated by merely deleting, adding, or updating entries.
Abstract:
A voltage divider and inverter provide a power-on-reset signal. The divider is placed between high and low power voltages, the divided voltage is the input to the inverter and the output of the inverter is the power-on-reset signal. The divider and inverter may be implemented on a single integrated circuit and accompany other, control and operational, circuitry on the integrated circuit. The divider is chosen so that the input to the inverter reaches the inverter's threshold voltage when the power voltage reaches a predetermined value.
Abstract:
An electro-optic device, comprising a layer of light-carrying material; and a rib, projecting from the layer of light-carrying material, for guiding optical signals propagating through the device. The layer of light-carrying material comprises a first doped region of a first type extending into the rib, and a second doped region of a second, different type extending into the rib such that a pn junction is formed within the rib. The pn junction extends substantially parallel to at least two contiguous faces of the rib, resulting in a more efficient device. In addition, a self-aligned fabrication process can be used in order to simplify the fabrication process and increase reliability and yield.

Compounds of formula (I) are disclosed. Compounds according to the invention bind to and are agonists, antagonists or inverse agonists of the CB2 receptor, and are useful for treating inflammation. Those compounds which are agonists are additionally useful for treating pain.
Abstract:
A system for time-sequential LED-string excitation includes a controller coupled to at least two LED strings and arranged to sequentially excite the strings—preferably by pulse-width modulating their respective currents—such that each string conducts a desired current and/or provides a desired light intensity. Individual string currents and/or light intensities are provided to the controller as feedback signals. The controller preferably pulse-width modulates each string such that it conducts a current which approximates the performance that would be provided if the string were made to continuously conduct an ‘optimal’ current. A voltage converter may be included to provide the supply voltage connected to the top of each LED string, and to adjust the supply voltage as needed to ensure that each string conducts a desired current.

This application describes tools and methods for the analysis, interpretation and modification of games and for the development, design and construction of new games. A method of designing a unit of gameplay comprises making a choice about the properties of a number of structural elements of said unit of gameplay to be designed to give a plurality of candidate structural element properties; and generating a schematic representation of the unit of gameplay comprising a representation of each of the candidate structural element properties. The structural elements include a topology of selected points of interest to be included in the unit of gameplay; a rhythm of the unit of gameplay; a number of actions that will be available to a participant of the unit of gameplay; and a probability that an objective result will be achieved by the participant.
