Abstract:
A fuel filter includes a housing and a pipe in the housing. The pipe includes a central flow passage, an opening along the length of the pipe into the passage, and an exterior groove. A latch device with discrete fingers closely surrounds the pipe and is engageable with the groove to prevent the latch device from moving axially along the pipe. The latch device has an annular sleeve, radially-outwardly spaced from the fingers. A valve device surrounds the pipe and has a sleeve normally covering the pipe opening in the pipe. A filter element has an end cap with thin, flat keys. The keys project through the slots in the valve device and engage the sleeve of the latch device to unlock the latch device from the pipe, and also engage and move the valve device to uncover the opening in the pipe, when the filter element is inserted into the housing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fluid filter, especially an oil filter for an internal combustion engine, comprising a filter housing and a central, approximately tubular component which extends into the interior of the filter, said central component engaging in the operating position a projection located on the filter housing and permanently retained in the filter housing, said component being disengageable from said projection and nondestructively removable in said disassembly position from the filter, the component being rotatably mounted around its longitudinal axis within the filter housing, a retaining component (10) being arranged in rotatably restricted fashion within the filter housing, which retaining component in its operating position surrounds and fixes the central component by means of a clamping or locking interference fit, and the central component being rotatable in its disassembly position when the clamping or locking force is exceeded.
Abstract:
A fuel filter includes a pair of housing portions defining an interior cavity. A pipe in the housing includes a central flow passage and an opening along the length of the pipe. An exterior groove is also provided in the pipe. A latch device with discrete fingers closely surrounds the pipe and is engageable with the groove to prevent the latch device from moving axially along the pipe. The latch device has an annular sleeve, radially-outwardly spaced from the fingers. A moveable valve device also surrounds the pipe and has a sleeve which normally covers the opening in the pipe. An annular base projects radially outward from the sleeve of the valve device and includes radially projecting tabs defining a plurality of slots. A filter element is removeably located in the housing and has an end cap with a valve-actuating portion. The valve-actuating portion includes a cylindrical portion and an annular base projecting radially inward from the cylindrical portion. A plurality of thin, flat keys are spaced around the valve-actuating portion and project radially inward from the cylindrical portion and axially outward from the base. The keys have first portions which project through the slots in the valve device and engage the sleeve of the latch device to unlock the latch device from the pipe, and second portions which engage the base of the valve device and move the valve element to uncover the opening in the pipe, when the element is inserted into the housing.

Abstract:
A liquid filter, especially for oil of an internal combustion engine, with a bypass valve including a valve body 20 and a valve seat 21 integrated in an end plate 32 of the filter insert. A spring 22, which urges the bypass valve closed, is mounted in a support member 24 attached to the housing. Thus, parts of the bypass valve subject to wear and soiling can be replaced each time filter element 18 is replaced, and reliable operation of the bypass valve is assured throughout the life of the filter. The filter insert can be designed free of metal for easy disposability. The filter cartridge can also be used with known filter arrangements in which a permanent valve body is housed in the support member 24. When the filter element of the invention is used, this permanent valve body stays in the support member and functions as an intermediate piece 35, which transmits force between spring 22 and valve body 20. The valve function is assumed by new valve body 20 engaging valve seat 21.
Abstract:
An improved, reduced waste oil filter has a concave housing having a first end, a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. A concave cover is removably and sealably attached to a second end of the housing providing a closed area with which the inlet and outlet ports communicate. An elongated cylindrical disposable oil filter element is supported within the closed area. The filter element has a perforated center tube, a first end of which detachably communicates with the fluid outlet port, the other end of the center tube being closed. The center tube has a filter media there around so that fluid flow into the closed area through the inlet port flows through the filter media and into the center tube to pass out through the outlet port. The filter element has a length greater than the internal depth of the cover so that when the cover is removed from the housing a portion of the length of the filter element extends exteriorly of the cover to facilitate easy removal and replacement. The housing and cover are intended for long term use, therefore only the disposable filter element itself is discarded. In a preferred arrangement the filter includes bypass and waste reducing anti-drain back valves.
Abstract:
A filter assembly includes a filter body, a removable filter cartridge, and the bypass valve with incinerable and non-incinerable portions. The bypass valve includes a valve seat and a movable valve closure element removable with the removable filter cartridge and incinerable. The bypass valve includes a return member remaining in the filter body. A method is provided for controlling bypass valve-opening threshold pressure.
Abstract:
An endcap bypass plug includes a body and a plurality of leg members. The body includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and an outer side surface joining the upper and lower surfaces. The plurality of leg members are connected to and extend away from the upper surface of the body. Adjacent leg members of the plurality of leg members are spaced apart by a distance to form a plurality of radial passages defining a plurality of radial fluid-flow paths. Each leg member includes a head portion having an upper surface. The head portion includes a nose portion extending radially outwardly from the head portion and including a ramp surface and a lower surface. The ramp surface of the nose portion is connected to the upper surface to define an upper edge. The ramp surface is connected to the lower surface of the nose portion to define a lower edge.
Abstract:
A filter element for filtering liquids or gases, having a concentrically arranged filter medium with zigzag pleats. The filter medium is provided with end disks on its axial end faces, each end disk having an inside that is connected to the filter medium and an outside that faces away from the filter medium. At least a first end disk carries a valve element which is situated concentrically inside the filter medium. This valve element includes a valve seat which bulges outward above the plane of the outer side of the end disk. The valve element includes a valve body which cooperates with the valve seat and which is arranged on the first end disk so that it is axially movable and is inside of and surrounded by the filter medium.
Abstract:
A filtering device for filtering liquids in internal combustion engines has a filter housing and a filter element inserted into the filter housing. A cover disk closes off the filter housing. The cover disk consists of two individual disks and a central flow connection connects the two individual disks. The two individual disks and the flow connection form a common plastic component.
