Abstract:
A stable liquid suspension composition comprising a liquid carrier, a solid fatty acid or a salt thereof, and a solid particulate is disclosed wherein said liquid carrier is selected from the group consisting of oils, olefins, terpenes, glycols, esters, ethers, alcohols, and combinations of any two or more thereof and said liquid carrier, solid fatty acid or salt thereof, and solid particulate are each present in said composition in a stabilizing amount sufficient to produce a stable liquid suspension. Also disclosed is a stable liquid composition comprising a liquid carrier, an oil-soluble polymer, and a solid particulate wherein said liquid carrier is selected from the group consisting of liquid alkenes, terpenes, esters, and combinations of any two or more thereof and said liquid carrier, oil-soluble polymer, and solid particulate are each present in said composition in a stabilizing amount sufficient to effect the formation of a stable liquid suspension.
Abstract:
Lubricant composition containing spherical particles of a ceramic material dispersed in a supporting vehicle. The composition is used as a lubricant, metalworking cooling fluid, drilling fluid or drilling mud.
Abstract:
A polyol ester is described which is derived from: (A) an aliphatic or alicyclic polyol; and (B) an aliphatic monocarboxylic mixture derived from a natural vegetable oil, said acid mixture comprising at least about 72% by weight of oleic acid. The invention also relates to compositions comprising the polyol esters and at least one antioxidant, and lubricating oil compositions comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and the polyol esters of the invention. Lubricating oil compositions comprising polyol esters of the invention, at least one antioxidant, and an oil of lubricating viscosity also are described and are particularly useful.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a composition, comprising: (A) a boron-containing overbased material; (B) a phosphorus acid, ester or derivative thereof; and (C) a borated epoxide or borated fatty acid ester of glycerol. In one embodiment the inventive composition further comprises (D) a thiocarbamate. These compositions are useful in providing lubricants and functional fluids, particularly automatic transmission fluids, with enhanced antiwear properties. In one embodiment these compositions also provide such lubricants and functional fluids with enhanced extreme-pressure and/or friction-modifying.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising from 0.1 to 10% by weight of a phosphate glass, characterized in that said phosphate glass comprises from 45 to 75 mole % of P.sub.2 O.sub.5, from 10 to 35 mole % of M.sub.2 O (M represents alkaline metals) and from 0 to 45 mole % of B.sub.2 O.sub.3. Phosphate glasses are in the form of powder with white to ash-colored appearance, and do not cause dirt of working surroundings. Phosphate glasses are less expensive than solid lubricants which are conventionally used, and also excellent load carrying capacity can be attained by adding a small amount of phosphate glass to a lubricant composition. Accordingly, the lubricant composition of the present invention shows better load carrying capacity than a conventional lubricant composition.
Abstract:
Lubricant composition for use on workpieces in the hot forming of metals, which contains: (a.sub.1) 0 to 80 percent by weight of a glass powder, (a.sub.2) 0 to 50 percent by weight of a glass frit whereby the content of at least one component (a.sub.1) or (a.sub.2) in the lubricant composition is not 0 percent by weight, (b) 10 to 25 percent by weight of natural or synthetic graphite, (c) 5 to 20 percent by weight of one or more alkali metal silicates of the general formula Me.sub.2 O.n SiO.sub.2, where Me is lithium, potassium or sodium and n is a number between 1 and 4, (d) 1 to 6 percent by weight of a water-soluble sodium polymetaphosphate, (e) 0 to 3 percent by weight of a water-insoluble sodium polymetaphosphate,(f) 0.5 to 4 percent by weight of a thickener, and (g) 0 to 1 percent by weight of borax.
Abstract:
A grease composition comprising a grease containing, in a base oil thereof, from 2 to 40% by weight, based on the total composition, of tricalcium phosphate [Ca.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2 ], the grease further containing (A) from 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the total composition, of a molybdenum dialkyldithiocarbamate sulfide and (B) from 0.1 to 5% by weight, based on the total composition, of at least one of a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate and triphenyl phosphorothionate. The grease composition is excellent in mechanical stability, heat resistance, extreme pressure properties, and wear resistance.
Abstract:
The coefficient of friction of aluminum can surfaces after alkaline cleaning and drying can be substantially reduced by adding to the alkaline cleaner a mobility enhancing additive, preferably a surface active quaternary ammonium salt with hydroxyethyl substituents on the quaternary nitrogen atoms. A can surface suitable for automatic conveying and high quality lacquer or printing ink adhesion can thereby be obtained, if desired without including any substantial fluoride content in any treatment stage.
Abstract:
An oil-soluble reaction product of at least one nitrogen-containing compound, at least one phosphorus-containing compound, and at least one mono- or di-sulfide-containing alkanol is provided, which improves friction and/or wear performance of a lubrication oil.
