Abstract:
A control method for controlling access through an automated door is performed by a control system that includes a first communications unit, a processor and a storage space. The control method includes the steps of: a) through the first communications unit, receiving a communications signal transmitted from a second communications unit that has a second identification code and that transmits the communications signal upon dialing of the first identification code, and obtaining the second identification code of the second communications unit from the communications signal; and b) through the processor, comparing the second identification code obtained in step a) with at least one authorized identification code stored in the storage space, and controlling the automated door to permit access therethrough when a match is found.
Abstract:
A handheld remote control device for a Media Computing Device has a biometric sensor to authenticate a user. The handheld remote control device includes a microphone and speaker to enable integration of a telephony system with the Media Computing Device. The handheld remote control device can be used as the interface with the Media Computing Device, alternatively, the handheld remote control device can be used as a speakerphone for communication in a telephony system that is integrated with the Media Computing Device. A multifunctional handheld remote control device can implement a variety of routines for interfacing with the Media Computing Device or alternatively for communicating in the telephony system.
Abstract:
An apparatus in one embodiment is operable to receive, from a remote control device associated with a video display device, biometric input of a user. Responsive to a match of the biometric input with stored biometric data of the user, the user is authenticated. The remote control device and/or the video display device are then configured based on user settings associated with the stored biometric data of the user. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for remote control and/or monitoring of a multimedia system includes processing that begins when a hand held device transmits a remote control/monitoring request to a server. The processing continues once a communication path is established between the hand held device and the server by having the server determine remote control and monitoring privileges of the hand held device. If the hand held device has at least a minimum level of remote control and monitoring privileges, the processing continues as the server processes the remote control/monitoring request with respect to at least one client to produce operational monitoring data. The processing continues as the server provides the operational monitoring data to the hand held device via the communication path.
Abstract:
Systems and methods according to the present invention address these needs and others by providing a handheld device, e.g., a 3D pointing device, which uses hand tremor as an input. One or more sensors within the handheld device detect a user's hand tremor and identify the user based on the detected tremor.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for controlling usage times for at least one device, including the steps of: (a) identifying a device to be controlled; (b) utilizing the device by a user; (c) tracking a device usage value for the device as the user utilizes the device; and (d) initiating an action sequence based upon the device usage value. Also disclosed is an apparatus for controlling usage times for at least one device.
Abstract:
A communications system includes a first and second device capable of transmitting and receiving RF communications; a controller for the first device capable of receiving or transmitting a code via a non-RF communication; a controller for the second device capable of receiving the code via a non-RF communication; and a processor for authenticating the first device for RF communication with the second device using the received code.
Abstract:
A biometric and speech recognition system and method is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the system includes a remote control device having a non-voice based biometric detector and a speech recognition engine. User profile data may be stored in a memory device of the remote control device. The system may also include a distributed speech recognition engine. Spoken commands may be recognized in accordance with the user data associated with a biometric signature.
Abstract:
A method of testing and installing a remote control unit (RCU) for controlling elements (ACT1, ACT2, ACT3) of a home automation network, intended for managing the security or heat or light comfort in a building, comprising the use of software (ALS) emulating the remote control unit in a computer (PCU) to define a virtual remote control unit (VRCU), and the configuring of the virtual remote control unit to enable the elements of the network to be controlled, wherein sending rights are assigned to the virtual remote control unit at the time of that configuration and wherein the cancellation of these sending rights results at least from a step for copying the configuration (CFG) of the virtual remote control unit in the remote control unit.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the methods and apparatuses display a list representing a plurality of devices; view a status of each of the plurality of devices; view a target device as an available device from the plurality of devices; display an application that is accessible on the target device; select content associated within the application wherein the content is located on the target device; and remotely access the content on the target device on a local device.
