    Abstract: An image reading device includes a contact glass having a document placing surface, an index part to be an index for aligning a corner of a document to a reference point within the document placing surface, a reading portion configured to read the document, and a light emitting portion configured to emit linear light extending in a main scanning direction. When a predetermined point apart from the index part within the document placing surface is set as the reference point, the light emitting portion moves in a sub-scanning direction so that a region of the contact glass irradiated with the linear light coincides with the predetermined point, and emits the linear light.

    Abstract: A method of reproducing an original document with a reproduction machine to produce a copied document, comprising the steps of: providing a marking member which contains a marking onto the reproduction machine; opening a cover unit of the reproduction machine; placing the original document on a glass surface of a glass unit of the reproduction machine; closing the cover unit so that the glass surface is covered by the cover unit; and pressing a start button of the reproduction machine to start a scanning process such that the marking and the original document are scanned together in the scanning process and are appeared in the copied document. The marking member is provided on the cover unit or the glass unit so as to make sure that the marking is well-positioned and copied in the copied document.

    Abstract: A portable document scanner that records both image and voice information, comprises a digital camera module configured to capture document images, and a laser frame generator configured to project a visible beam of light forming a laser frame to indicate the corresponding field of view of the optical lens for framing a document to be captured. A light source generated by a laser diode is shaped by passing through a collimating optical element and a diffractive optical element which is configured to produce a visible laser frame for framing a document to be captured. The captured data is then stored in an internal memory of the scanner. A data connector is permanently attached to the scanner body, which is used to connect the scanner directly into a receptacle on an external device for accessing data.

    Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a contact glass having a light control glass part having transmittance changeable by an applied voltage; a scanner part reading an original placed on an original placement surface of the contact glass and outputting image data in a storage part; a projector part projecting image information onto the contact glass from a side opposite to the original placement surface; and a control part controlling the voltage applied to the light controlling glass part.
