There are provided a retardation film, a manufacturing method thereof, and a liquid crystal display device including the same. The retardation film includes 1) an acrylic film, 2) a coating layer of a negative C-type material, and 3) a primer layer including a copolymer containing an aromatic vinyl-based unit and a maleic acid-based unit, provided between the acrylic film and the coating layer of the negative C-type material. The retardation film may be used in an in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device.

An optical film laminate that has predefined slit lines for enhancing both product accuracy and manufacturing speed in liquid-crystal display element manufacturing to radically improve manufacturing yield. The optical film laminate formed as a continuous web with the predefined slit lines for use in a continuous manufacturing system by laminating optically functional film sheets to liquid-crystal panels. The optical film laminate having defect-free regions having a predefined length corresponding to the dimension of a liquid-crystal panel and defective regions having a predefined length different from the defect-free region, based on the detected position of defects. The optical film laminate having a carrier film releasably laminated to an adhesive layer, wherein defect-free normal polarizing sheets and a defective polarizing sheets are formed on the carrier film by forming slit lines corresponding to above regions along the transverse direction of the optical film laminate.

A mixture containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compound and a peeling preventive agent is prepared. Here, the peeling preventive agent has as a polar group any one of a hydroxyl group, a carboxyl group, a phosphate group, a sulfonate group, an amino group, a mercapto group and an isocyanate group, and also has a polymerizable group. Then, an alignment layer is arranged on a transparent support substrate, and subjected to patterned treatment, and the mixture is coated, and a coated surface is dried and cured to form a patterned retarder, and thus a three-dimensional image display apparatus having excellent reliability, such as adhesion, is obtained.
