Abstract: A fibrous cellulose has an average fiber width of 0.1 µm or more and has a part or all of hydroxyl groups replaced with carbamate groups, in which a replacement ratio with the carbamate group is 1.0 mmol/g or more, and a fine ratio is 30% or more. A fibrous cellulose composite resin contains a fibrous cellulose and a resin, and the above fibrous cellulose In manufacturing fibrous cellulose, a cellulose raw material and urea or the like are subjected to a heat treatment to replace a part or all of hydroxyl groups of the cellulose raw material with carbamate groups, defibration is performed within a range in which an average fiber width is 0.1 µm or more, the heat treatment is performed such that a replacement ratio with the carbamate group is 1.0 mmol/g or more, and the defibration is performed until a fine ratio reaches 30% or more.

Abstract: A particulate cellulose derivative is obtained in a process of grinding and drying a moist cellulose derivative which comprises the steps of A) providing a cellulose derivative having a moisture content of from 60 to 95 percent, based on the total weight of the moist cellulose derivative, B) grinding and partially drying the moist cellulose derivative in a gas-swept impact mill; C) contacting the ground and partially dried cellulose derivative with an additional amount of a drying gas outside the gas-swept impact mill; and D) subjecting the cellulose derivative to partial depolymerization after having contacted the cellulose derivative with a drying gas in step C). The obtained particulate cellulose derivative has a high untapped bulk density, a good flowability and a low color intensity.

Abstract: A curable formaldehyde-free binding composition for use with fiberglass is provided. Such curable composition comprises an addition product of an amine and a reactant to form an amino-amide intermediate. To the amino-amide is added an aldehyde or ketone to form the curable binder composition. The composition when applied to fiberglass is cured to form a water-insoluble binder which exhibits good adhesion to glass. In a preferred embodiment the composition when applied to fiberglass provides a sufficient blackness required in facer products.

Abstract: Methods for regenerating an article for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from a gas stream include removing a CO2 capture sorbent from an adsorbent capture honeycomb. Removing the CO2 capture sorbent from the capture article may include contacting the adsorbent honeycomb and a volume of fluid, wherein the fluid removes the sorbent from the honeycomb, and the honeycomb binder is insoluble in the fluid. Restoring the article may include contacting the honeycomb with a regeneration fluid to deposit a CO2 capture sorbent on a surface of the honeycomb.

Abstract: A binder comprising a polymeric binder comprising the products of a carbohydrate reactant and organic acid is disclosed. The binder is useful for consolidating loosely assembled matter, such as fibers. Fibrous products comprising fibers in contact with a carbohydrate reactant and an organic acid are also disclosed. The binder composition may be cured to yield a fibrous product comprising fibers bound by a cross-linked polymer. Further disclosed are methods for binding fibers with the carbohydrate based binder using an organic acid.

The solid composition may further comprise a quaternary ammonium compound, wherein the weight ratio of the polysaccharide and the hydrophobic compound is between 1:50 and 50:1. Preferably, the solid composition is substantially free or completely free of water. The solid composition shows excellent stability at a temperature up to 45° C. The present invention also provides a process for preparing the solid composition and a liquid composition comprising said solid composition, and a method for conditioning a fabric by using said solid composition or said liquid composition as well.

Abstract: Regioselectively substituted cellulose esters having a plurality of pivaloyl substituents and a plurality of aryl-acyl substituents are disclosed along with methods for making the same. Such cellulose esters may be suitable for use in films, such as +A optical films, and/or +C optical films. Optical films prepared employing such cellulose esters have a variety of commercial applications, such as, for example, as compensation films in liquid crystal displays and/or waveplates in creating circular polarized light used in 3-D technology.
