Abstract:
A method is provided for preparing a wire for installation of a terminal. The method comprises removing an insulating layer from a conductor to expose a portion of a conductor. The method further includes attaching a conductive foil layer to a portion of the exposed portion of the conductor by applying pressure to the conductive foil layer.
Abstract:
A conductive element of a cable or a wire is formed of an improved aluminum-zirconium alloy. The aluminum-zirconium alloy further includes an inoculant. The aluminum-zirconium alloy exhibits excellent ultimate tensile strength values and resistance to heat. Bonding wires formed from an improved aluminum-zirconium alloy exhibiting certain ultimate tensile strength values, fatigue resistance and/or creep rates are also described. Methods of forming cables and wires are also further disclosed.
Abstract:
A cable assembly includes a conductor and a self-cleaning layer that surrounds the conductor and includes one or more of a photocatalyst and an electrocatalyst. Overhead high voltage electricity transmission lines are formed from these cable assemblies. Methods of reducing surface buildup on a cable are also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a surface modified overhead conductor with a coating that allows the conductor to operate at lower temperatures. The coating contains about 5% to about 30% of an inorganic adhesive, about 45% to about 92% of a filler, about 2% to about 20% of one or more emissivity agents, and about 1% to about 5% of a stabilizer.
Abstract:
A data communications cable is disclosed herein. The data communications cable includes a plurality of twisted pairs of conductive wires and a separator between the plurality of twisted pairs of conductive wires. The separator includes an inner member and an outer layer being supported and shaped by the inner member for completely encapsulating at least one gas pocket between the outer layer and the inner member. The outer layer prevents the plurality of twisted pairs of conductive wires from entering the at least one gas pocket.
Abstract:
A cable having one or more conductors with a polymeric covering layer and a non-extruded coating layer formed of a material based on a liquid composition including a polymer resin and an antimicrobial additive. Methods of forming cables are also provided.
Abstract:
A cable separator comprising a preshaped article having a longitudinal length, wherein said preshaped article is substantially entirely formed of a foamed polymer material having a glass transition temperature greater than 160° C. and being halogen-free is provided. A data communications cable comprising a plurality of conductors and the cable separator of the present invention, wherein said cable separator separates the plurality of conductors is provided. A method of manufacturing a cable comprising the separator of the invention is also provided.
Abstract:
A coated overhead conductor having an assembly including one or more conductive wires, such that the assembly includes an outer surface coated with an electrochemical deposition coating forming an outer layer, wherein the electrochemical deposition coating includes a first metal oxide, such that the first metal oxide is not aluminum oxide. Methods for making the overhead conductor are also provided.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to materials for making cable jackets, particularly for riser and plenum cables. The materials provide low flammability and allow the cable to meet UL 910 or NFPA-262 or UL 1666 specifications. The composition contains polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin, a plasticizer, ammonium octamolybdate, a molybdate compound, a stabilizer, a lubricant, aluminum trihydrate, and either i) metal oxide particles, ii) a polytetrafluoroehtylene (PTFE), iii) an intumescent compound, or iv) combinations thereof.
Abstract:
