Abstract:
A thermoplastic resin product having a skin film, such as a bumper of automobile can be used to produce reclaimed resin particles utilizable in various uses, without removing the skin film, by mixing a pulverized thermoplastic resin product containing a small amount of cured resin particles and a black or colored pigment with one or more of a light-shielding pigment such as a white pigment, a black pigment, and a colored pigment, converting the mixture into a molten product, and converting the molten product into solid particles.
Abstract:
A pulverized thermoplastic resin product such as a pulverized thermoplastic product containing a black pigment, a mixture of a pulverized thermoplastic product containing a colored pigment and a pulverized thermoplastic product containing a colored pigment, or a pulverized thermoplastic product containing two or more different colored pigments can be converted into colored reclaimed resin particles by a method comprising the steps of mixing the pulverized resin product with a white pigment and a black pigment, melting the resulting mixture, and converting the molten mixture into solid particles. The colored reclaimed resin products can be utilized in various field.
Abstract:
A highly filled composite is formed by extruding through a multiple screw extruder a thermoplastic resin and sufficient filler so that an autogranulating extrudate exits the extruder barrel. The extruder is operated without an exit manifold, strand die or breaker plate. The extrudate forms irregularly shaped granules. The granules provide a molding composition that can be used to form highly filled molded articles such as fuel cell separator plates and end plates by compression, injection or compression-injection molding.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to non-foamed insect repellent concentrates that include polymeric resins that have been impregnated with insect repellents and methods for making same. Additionally, the present invention relates to products formed from insect repellent impregnated polymeric resins and methods for making same. Preferred products such as, for example, plastic tablecloths, plastic garbage receptacles and plastic garbage lawn bags are described.
Abstract:
A continuous process provides a devolatilized liquid injection moldable silicone composition. In the process, a filler, treating agent and silicone polymer are introduced into an extruder having a length to diameter ratio of at least greater than 50. The filler, treating agent and silicone elastomer are continuously compounded in the extruder into a devolatilized liquid injection moldable silicone composition. A system for preparing a liquid silicone rubber composition comprises a mixer to prepare a concentrate of filler and silicone polymer, a long extruder having an L/D ratio of greater than 50, connected to the mixer to receive the concentrate from the mixer and to compound and devolatilize the concentrate, a treating agent and silicone polymer into a liquid silicone rubber composition containing volatiles and a cooler to receive the liquid silicone rubber composition to cool, homogenize and further devolatilized the composition.

Abstract:
Processing aids comprising amorphous particulate silicates containing from about 2% to about 50% water, are utilized in processes for compounding thermoplastic resins, allowing higher levels of additives to be more effectively incorporated into the thermoplastic resins. The processing aids allow greater dispersion of pigments and other additives in compounded thermoplastic resins and concentrates.
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a method for making a highly radiopaque polyolefin compound, wherein the radiopaque material in said compound is substantially uniformly dispersed and held within a polymer matrix. During the method one first heats an amount of polyolefin, preferably low density polyethylene, to at least its melting temperature. The amount of polyolefin is equal to at least 10% by weight of the compound. Then an amount of radiopaque metal powder is added to the polyolefin. The amount of radiopaque metal is equal to up to 90% by weight of the compound. The metal powder is preferably tantalum, tungsten, gold or platinum. Thereafter, an amount of a dispersing agent is added to the polyolefin to form a mixture. The amount of dispersing agent is equal to at least 0.2% by weight of the compound. The dispersing agent is preferably zinc stearate, aluminum stearate or calcium stearate. Lastly, the mixture is mixed and cooled below its melting temperature to form the compound.
Abstract:
Curable epoxy resin compositions, preferably solvent-free, wherein a fluorene amine curative is partially melt dissolved and partially dispersed as a solid in at least one aromatic polyepoxide. The compositions provide prepregs which exhibit tack with surprisingly good shelf life properties. Cured composites comprising the prepregs are also provided. The cured composites exhibit little resin migration and glass transition temperatures that are comparable to those of cured neat resins.
