A hydrophilic film forming composition which is used for forming on the surface of a support of every sort a hydrophilic film provided with anti-fogging properties, abrasion resistance and antibacterial properties and having more favorable antifouling properties is provided. A hydrophilic member having an excellent anti-fogging, abrasion-resistant, antibacterial and antifouling surface provided with a hydrophilic film formed of the instant hydrophilic film forming composition on the surface of an appropriate support is provided.A hydrophilic film forming composition including (A) a positively charged nitrogen atom-containing compound having a Log P of not more than 2; (B) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing hydrophilic polymer; and (C) a metal complex catalyst. A primer composition for a cured silicon-containing surface and its uses are provided. The composition comprises a polar organic solvent, an acrylic monomer, and an amino-containing silane having a formula of (R1O)x(R2)ySiR3NHR4, wherein each R1 independently represents H, C1-C12 hydrocarbonyl, or aryl, each R2 independently represents H, O, C1-C12 hydrocarbonyl, or aryl, R3 represents divalent C1-C6 hydrocarbonyl being substituted or unsubstituted with one or more aryl rings and the carbon atom chain of the hydrocarbonyl can be inserted with one or more aryl rings, R4 represents H, C1-C12 hydrocarbonyl, amino-C1-C12 hydrocarbonyl, or phenylamino, and x is 0, 1, 2 or 3, y is 0, 1 or 2, and the sum of x and y is 3. The amount of the acrylic monomer ranges from about 0.01 wt % to about 25 wt %, while the amount of the amino-containing silane ranges from about 1 wt % to about 35 wt %, based on the total weight of the composition.

Compositions containing selected polymer dispersions, colloidal silica, fillers and pigments are described.These can be formulated to give plasters and renders or paints which are distinguished by excellent abrasion resistance, little tendency to soiling, high water vapor permeability, good adhesion and good weathering stability. The compositions according to the invention can be processed to give plasters and renders or paints which have a nanostructured surface and which differ from conventionally produced surfaces.

Multistage polymers predominantly stabilized by nonionic emulsifiers and derived from hard and soft monomer compositions containing vinyl esters, of which at least one monomer composition must contain an unsaturated compromisable organosilicon compound, are described.The plastic dispersions can be used as binders in emulsion paints and finishes and impart to these excellent scrub resistance in addition to good blocking resistance.

Silicon-containing layers including such interpenetrating networks are provided. Methods for preparing interpenetrating networks and silicon-containing layers including interpenetrating networks are also provided. The present invention relates to a coating composition containing a polymer blend dispersion including: a first polymer having a relatively low molecular weight and a relatively low glass transition temperature and comprising a self-crosslinking monomer; and a second polymer having a relatively high molecular weight and a relatively high glass transition temperature. Latex paint compositions and architectural coatings containing the coating composition according to the invention are also described herein, as well as substrates coated therewith.
