Abstract: A superhydrophobic coating composition is provided comprising an NP component and a radical initiator (RI), wherein the NP component comprises NP particles having organic moieties bound to the surface of the NP particles. Also provided is a superhydrophobic coating composition further comprising a fluid. Also provided is a method for preparing a super-hydrophobic (SH) surface, where the method includes mixing an NP component with at least one RI and possibly with a fluid, thereby providing a coating composition, applying the coating composition onto a substrate (pre-coated or containing oxides) thereby providing a coated substrate; and applying radiation to the coated substrate, thereby providing the SH surface on which at least part of the NP component is covalently bound, directly or indirectly, to the substrate.

Abstract: Provided are an abrasion-resistant, stable and flame-resistant superhydrophobic/superoleophobic coating, and a preparation and application thereof, belonging to the field of new materials; the preparation includes: taking a superhydrophobic/superoleophobic suspension as a top-layer spraying solution; dispersing epoxy resin in a solvent, and adding a fluorine-containing curing agent and a flame retardant for reaction to obtain a bottom-layer spraying solution; and first spraying the bottom-layer spraying solution to a surface of a substrate, then spraying the top-layer spraying solution, and drying the surface to obtain a bilayer abrasion-resistant superhydrophobic flame-resistant coating; the superhydrophobic/superoleophobic suspension contains multi-level micro nano structural particles, a fluorine-containing curing agent and fluorinated epoxy resin; the prepared single-layer coating and bilayer structure (BLC) have hydrophobicity, flame resistance, good mechanical properties and excellent corrosion resistance performance.

Abstract: A hydrophobic-icephobic composition includes a monomer binder, an organic solvent, and a hydrolyzed organosilane. The hydrolyzed organosilane is represented by a formula of R1—Si—(OH)3. The R1 group comprises an alkyl or a haloalkyl having from 3 to 40 carbons. A hydrophobic-icephobic coating over a substrate includes a polymer base and a polyorganosiloxane. The polyorganosiloxane includes —(R1—Si—O2)- units. The R1 group includes an alkyl or a haloalkyl having from 3 to 40 carbons. One or more of the —(R1—Si—O2)- units of the polyorganosiloxane are may be chemically bonded to the substrate.

Abstract: A surface-treated fluidic channel is provided comprising a dispensing device that comprises a microarray of microchannels. The fluidic channel is made from metal and comprises a surface and a hydrophobic coating layer comprising a self-assembled monolayer of an organophosphorus acid adhered to the surface. A mesh nebulizer comprising a reservoir and a dispensing device comprising a microarray of microchannels is also provided. A metal surface layer is applied to the interior and exterior surfaces of the reservoir and dispensing device, and a hydrophobic coating layer comprising an organo-silicon or a self-assembled monolayer of an organophosphorus acid is adhered to the metal surface layer, usually on the exterior surfaces of the reservoir and dispensing device. A hydrophilic polymeric coating layer may be chemically bonded to and propagated from terminal functional groups on the hydrophobic coating layer on the interior surfaces of the reservoir and dispensing device.

Abstract: Provided herein is a method for coating a surface. The method comprises providing a towelette moistened with a mixture of constituents to form a non-aqueous silicon-based composition comprising 7% to 80% (w/w of the total composition) polysilazane, 1% to 10% (w/w of the total composition) polysilane, 0.2% to 1% (w/w of the total composition) polysiloxane, and 20% to 70% (w/w of the total composition) at least one organic solvent; wherein polysilazane is present in a 10:1 to 110:1 weight ratio to polysiloxane; and wherein the polysilane is of a formula (R1R2Si)n, wherein n is greater than 1, and wherein R1 and R2 are the same or different and are chosen from alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, alkylamino, aryl, aralkyl, or alkylsilyl. The mixture from the towelette to form a coating on a surface and the coating is cured ambiently without additional heat. Also provided are towelettes containing the mixture.
