Abstract: Systems and methods for facilitating communication with autonomous vehicles are provided. In one example embodiment, a computing system (e.g., of a vehicle) can generate a first communication associated with an autonomous vehicle. The computing system can provide the first communication to an application programming interface gateway that is remote from the autonomous vehicle. Another computing system can obtain, via an application programming interface gateway, the first communication associated with the autonomous vehicle. The other computing system can determine a first frontend interface of the application programming interface gateway based at least in part on the first communication associated with the autonomous vehicle. The computing system can provide, via the first frontend interface, the first communication associated with the autonomous vehicle to a first system client associated with the first frontend interface.

Abstract: The technology relates to autonomous vehicles for transporting cargo and/or people between locations. Distributed sensor arrangements may not be suitable for vehicles such as large trucks, busses or construction vehicles. Side view mirror assemblies are provided that include a sensor suite of different types of sensors, including LIDAR, radar, cameras, etc. Each side assembly is rigidly secured to the vehicle by a mounting element. The sensors within the assembly may be aligned or arranged relative to a common axis or physical point of the housing. This enables self-referenced calibration of all sensors in the housing. Vehicle-level calibration can also be performed between the sensors on the left and right sides of the vehicle. Each side view mirror assembly may include a conduit that provides one or more of power, data and cooling to the sensors in the housing.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to generation of a safe navigation path for a vehicle. The safe navigation path is generated by a navigation path generation system. The navigation path generation system receives a reference path from a source location to a destination location. Further, generates scan lines from the reference path to the boundaries present on either side of the reference path. Further, the navigation path generation system generates segment along the boundaries. Further, using the generated segments the navigation path generation system generates a safe navigation path along the centre, between the boundaries present on either side of the reference path. Navigation of the vehicle along the safe path ensures the safety of the vehicle and the people in the vehicle especially when the vehicle is an autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle.

Abstract: A system includes a plurality of at least partially autonomous vehicles, a plurality of interconnected roadways having a plurality of track segments, and embarkation area, and a control system. The roadways preferably have at least partially separated lanes and the roadways are optionally grade separated. The embarkation area includes a plurality of embarkation slots where passengers can board the vehicles. The embarkation area is connected to at least one of the plurality of track segments, allowing the vehicles to travel to and from the embarkation area to the at least one of the plurality of track segments. The control system is configured to coordinate a continuous flow of the plurality of vehicles on the track segments. Groups of vehicles depart from the embarkation area to the at least one of the plurality of track segments in coordinated groups.

Abstract: Methods are provided for managing a passenger's interaction with an autonomous vehicle. The method identifies a passenger approaching an autonomous vehicle and activates a recognition signal that indicates pairing the passenger with the vehicle. As the passenger approaches, and entry point for the vehicle is identified. A recognition signal for the entry point is activated and the passenger is notified. As the exit point for the bride approaches, it is identified by the vehicle and in exit indicator is activated for the passenger. Any exit obstacles are identified by the vehicle and the passenger is notified. And exit indicator is activated for the passenger to provide notification of a safe to exit status from the autonomous vehicle.

Abstract: The technology relates to actively looking for an assigned passenger prior to a vehicle reaching a pickup location. For instance, information identifying the pickup location and client device information for authenticating the assigned passenger is received. Sensor data is received from a perception system of the vehicle identifying objects in an environment of the vehicle. When the vehicle is within a predetermined distance of the pickup location, authenticating a client device using the client device information is attempted. When the client device has been authenticated, the sensor data is used to determine whether a pedestrian is within a first threshold distance of the vehicle. When a pedestrian is determined to be within the first threshold distance of the vehicle, the vehicle is stopped prior to reaching the pickup location, to wait for the pedestrian within the first threshold distance of the vehicle to enter the vehicle.
