A communication system including a communication box connected to a public communication line and capable of data communication with a child unit through a digital cordless (DCL) wave and with a multi-function device through a wires LAN (WLAN) wave, and wherein each of the child unit and multi-function device has a light emitting portion and a light receiving portion for optical communication between the child unit and multi-function device. The communication box and multi-function device have respective WLAN communication control portions which are normally placed in a non-operating state, and when the communication box receives facsimile data from the public communication line, the communication box commands the child unit to require the multi-function device to start its WLAN communication control portion, starts its own WLAN communication control portion, and transmit the facsimile data to the multi-function device through the WLAN wave.

The information processing apparatus includes a detection unit for detecting that an imaging apparatus is connected thereto, a determination unit for determining, according to processing to be performed on media data photographed by the imaging apparatus, whether the processing is performed by the information processing apparatus, an execution instruction unit for issuing, when the determination unit determines that the processing is not performed by the information processing apparatus, an execution instruction to the remote apparatus capable of performing the processing to perform the processing on the media data, and a media data receiving unit for receiving from the remote apparatus to which the execution instruction is issued, the media data on which the processing is performed.

A relay device for properly causing an information processing apparatus to process a Web service request from an external apparatus even when a firewall exists between the information processing apparatus and the external apparatus or even when the information processing apparatus exists in an environment in which address translation is performed. A mediation application of a mediation apparatus transmits a request corresponding to an operation on an operation screen displayed on an MFP, to a server, and receives a response to the request from the server. The mediation application determines to which of a Web browser and a service provider section of the MFP according to the content of the response. The mediation application transmits the response to one of the Web browser and the service provider section according to a result of the determination.

Printing and scanning methods using a facsimile machine communicating with a computer over a bi-directional direct passive link connected between digital communication ports of the computer and facsimile machine Upon receipt of an instruction at the facsimile machine, the printing method includes receiving digital image data from the computer via the bi-directional direct passive link. The digital image data is processed substantially as it is received at the facsimile machine and printed onto media. Upon receipt of an instruction at the facsimile machine, the scanning method includes scanning content from media provided within the facsimile machine to create digital image data digital image data representative of the content, and providing the digital image data substantially as it is created to the computer via the bi-directional direct passive link. The instructions and digital image data are transmitted in a standard facsimile machine format using standard facsimile machine protocols.

An adapter connected to a device and also connected to a client terminal via a network displays an operation window corresponding to the process mode of the device on the client terminal and remote-controls the operation of the device based on an operation signal for the operation window. When the process mode is a remote control mode that allows the client terminal to read out data accumulated in the device, the client terminal displays an image for which open setting is done by the device.

A virtual kiosk system and method are provided for stored photo-image reproduction. A photo-image discovery device, having no dedicated display, scans communication interfaces for photo-capable devices, and determines if detected photo-capable devices have stored electronically formatted photo-images. The photo-images are acquired into the photo-image discovery device, and the acquired photo-images are uploaded to a network-connected storage site. Subsequently, the photo discovery device may be interfaced to a display monitor. A menu of photo-image user prompt options is depicted on the display monitor, originating from the photo discovery device. The storage site is accessed from the photo discovery device in response to a first user prompt. In response to a second user prompt, a stored photo-image is selected. In one aspect a delivery option for the selected photo-image is selected in response to an additional user prompt.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for the local distribution of stored photo-images to wireless picture frames. The method interfaces a photo-image discovery device, having no dedicated display, to a display monitor presenting a menu of photo-image user prompt options originating from the photo discovery device. A photo-image from the storage site is selected, as well as a wireless picture frame destination. Then, the photo-image is wireless sent to the selected destination. In one aspect, the wireless picture frame is selected in response to discovery device movements.

An image transmission system including an image processing device and a communicating device which are communicable with each other through an access point in an infrastructure mode through an “m” channel, wherein upon a communication failure in the infrastructure mode, the communication mode is switched from the infrastructure mode to an ad hoc mode in which the two devices are directly communicable with each other through an “n” channel. During the communication in the ad hoc mode, the “m” channel is scanned to detect the access point at a predetermined time interval, and upon detection of the access point through the “m” channel, the communication mode is switched back to the infrastructure mode.

In an image display device configured to be connected to a network, a method of communicating over the network with a remote device on the network is disclosed. The method includes receiving a message sent to a multicast address on the network by the remote device, wherein the message includes an instruction to the image display device to perform a function; and performing the function instructed by the message.
