An image forming apparatus which can be remotely operated by an external terminal comprises a touch panel for displaying various information and receiving an operation input from an operator, a status detection part for detecting an apparatus status of the image forming apparatus, a status display part provided separately from the touch panel, for displaying the apparatus status detected by the status detection part, a generation part for generating data of a first image representing a display content on the touch panel and a second image representing a display content on the status display part, and a transmitting part for transmitting the data of the first and second images to the external terminal as display data for a remote operation screen on the external terminal.

An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus and a portable terminal. The image forming apparatus includes: a preview image creating circuit that creates preview image data from image data; and a preview image transmitting circuit that transmits the preview image data to the portable terminal. The portable terminal includes: a preview image data receiving circuit that receives the preview image data from the image forming apparatus; a preview image display circuit that displays an image of the preview image data; and a page orientation setting circuit that sets the page orientation whether a top side of the original document is an upper side, or a top side of the original document is a left side corresponding to a direction of the image of the preview image data.

An image forming system includes plural image forming devices each of which forms an image corresponding to image data. Each image forming device includes a memory, a determining unit, a selecting unit, a specifying unit, and a transferring unit. The memory stores one or more pieces of image data. The determining unit determines whether or not usage of the memory is larger than a threshold. The selecting unit selects, if the determining unit determines that usage of the memory is larger than the threshold, a piece of image data to be transferred from among the pieces of image data stored in the memory. The specifying unit specifies a specific image forming device to which the selected piece of image data is to be transferred among the other image forming devices. The transferring unit transfers the selected piece of image data to the specific image forming device.
