    Abstract: In an image processing apparatus that generates image data from drawing information, compresses the image data and stores the data in a memory, it is determined whether the data amount of the image data exceeds an amount of a difference between an amount of space securable in the memory and a first threshold determined from the amount of the memory available in the memory. If a CPU determines that the amount of the image data exceeds the amount of the difference from the first threshold, the CPU performs a fake compression processing for compressing the image data by a compression unit without storing the image data in the memory. If the CPU determines that the amount of the image data does not exceed the amount of the difference from the first threshold, the CPU performs a compression processing for compressing the image data by a compression unit.
