Abstract: An exemplary gas generator driven hydraulic accumulator includes an elongated body having a first end, a second end, and a bore extending axially from a barrier to the second end; a piston slidably disposed in the bore; in use a gas generator located in a chamber between the first end and the barrier; an orifice through the barrier providing fluid communication between the chamber and the bore; in use a hydraulic fluid disposed in the bore between the piston and the second end whereby the hydraulic fluid is exhausted under pressure through a discharge port in response to activation of the gas generator; and in use a one-way flow control device connected in a flow path of the discharge port to permit one-way flow of the hydraulic fluid from the bore and to block return fluid from through the discharge port into the bore.

Abstract: A valve system includes: a valve; a hydraulic cylinder attached to at least a portion of the valve; and at least a first accumulator in fluid communication with the hydraulic cylinder. The first accumulator includes: (i) a first end having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet; (ii) a second end having a gas inlet; and (iii) a body positioned between the first end and the second end and which includes a fluid chamber and a gas chamber separated by a flexible separating member. The hydraulic cylinder is configured to close the valve in response to pressure provided by fluid distributed from the first accumulator.

Abstract: A system for storing and releasing hydraulic energy having a controller, a pressure source, a bidirectional valve fluidly connected to the pressure source, an expandable vessel fluidly connected to the bidirectional valve having a plurality of axial folds between first and second ends, and a bidirectional port connected to the pressure source. As the plurality of axial folds expand, a contracted volume of pressure expands increasing stored hydraulic fluid energy in the expandable vessel. As the plurality of axial folds contract, the expanded volume reduces, releasing stored hydraulic fluid energy to nearby subsea equipment on demand as changes in hydraulic fluid energy requirements for the subsea equipment changes. Simultaneously, hydrostatic seawater pressure of seawater on the expandable vessel is counteracted with the hydrostatic pressure of fluid inside the expandable vessel.

A propellant charge located in a gas chamber of the pyrotechnic section, a piston movably disposed the hydraulic section, and a fluid disposed in a hydraulic chamber between the piston and the discharge end, wherein the fluid is exhausted under pressure through a discharge port in response to ignition of the propellant charge.
