An interface for facilitating facsimile transmission via a wireless communications device operatively connected to a wireless communications network, including: a modem suitable for being communicatively coupled to a facsimile machine; a controller coupled to the modem; and, a memory operatively coupled to the controller. The interface includes code to cause the modem to transmit a retrain request to the facsimile machine upon expiration of a given temporal period. The interface includes a circuit for selectively generating a ring signal corresponding to a plain old telephone service ring signal. The interface includes a circuit for selectively generating a hold signal corresponding to a plain old telephone service hold signal. And, the circuit includes code to cause the modem to transmit data indicative of white lines to the facsimile machine upon expiration of a given temporal period.

In a system in which a communication adapter installing UPnP is connected to a printer to provide a print service, the communication adapter notifies a device that the printer joins the network or leaves from it, based on determination whether the printer can provide a service. Hence, the present invention can suppress from issuing a service request to a printer which cannot provide the service.

An adaptor which mediates between an image supply device and a printer causes the printer to print by selecting either of the first operation mode in which image data from the image supply device is received by wireless communication and before the completion of receiving the image data, a print job is issued to the printer by wired communication, and the second operation mode in which image data from the image supply device is received by wireless communication and after the completion of receiving the image data, a print job is issued to the printer by wired communication.

The present invention directly interfaces a digital camera to a printer for printing images stored by the digital camera. A printer that directly docks with the digital camera includes a docking port and an image magnifier. The docking port includes mechanical and data interfaces between the printer and the digital camera. The digital camera includes a display unit that is used for viewing the images magnified by the image magnifier while the digital camera is interfaced to the printer. A docking station that docks the digital camera to a printer includes a docking port and an image magnifier. The docking port includes a mechanical interface to the digital camera and a data interface to the digital camera and the printer. The printer and the docking station may include a user interface to manipulate the images stored by the digital camera.

An embodiment of the present invention includes a digital camera system having a digital camera and a computer for transferring pictures of images taken by the digital camera therebetween. The digital camera system includes a card removably and directly coupled, without any intermediary device, between the digital camera and the computer for temporarily storing the images and for transferring the temporarily stored images to the computer for viewing, editing and reproduction thereof.

A BT/USB image-printing converter and the method use a Bluetooth transmission module to receive image data from electronic products. According to a picture bridge protocol, the microprocessor converts the image data into printing data, which are then transmitted via a USB transmission module to the printing device. The printing of the image data is provided by electronic products without the aid of any computer device.

Apparatus for interfacing a conventional facsimile machine with a PC enabling the use of the facsimile machine as a scanner or printer. A first switch assembly selectively couples the PC modem and facsimile machine either to independent telephone lines in a normal mode or to one another in a scan/print mode. A manually operated switch assembly is depressed for a brief interval sufficient to activate a ringing circuit which converts DC power from a small battery source to a 20 Hz sine wave of 90 volt amplitude and applies the sine wave signal to the PC to cause the PC or facsimile to enter into a scan or print mode, respectively. The manually operable switch is then released to apply a constant current to the facsimile machine to simulate an off-hook condition. A facsimile machine start button is then operated to start the facsimile machine which scans documents provided therein and transmits the scanned data in a conventional facsimile transmission format or activate the PC to transmit a fax in conventional facsimile transmission format to utilize the facsimile machine as a printer. The PC may be equipped with a suitable software program for converting non-graphic, i.e. such as word-type information into a binary format suitable for use in word processing applications and may store the data in a memory for subsequent use. An automatic circuit may be provided to initiate a scanning or printing mode responsive to receipt of a unique number received from either the facsimile machine or the PC, thus eliminating the need for switches.

The present invention provides for a stand-alone scanner capable of sending scanned images to USB (Universal Serial Bus) compliant devices for printing, storage, and transmission without the need of a computer host CPU. One embodiment of the invention is an external USB host that enables existing scanners without USB host functionality to host a variety of USB devices.

In an image display device, a method of communicating over a network an invitation to use the image display device to at least one image source connected to the network is provided. The method may include forming an invitation message, wherein the invitation message contains an invitation for an image source to connect to the image display device to use a service on the image display device, and sending the invitation message to a multicasting address on the network.
