Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems and methods that can improve the quality and efficiency of document facsimile transmission. Quality can be improved by allowing a facsimile document sender to view the document as it will be transmitted to a receiving facsimile device. Efficiency of facsimile transmission is improved by providing systems and methods that allow the transmitting facsimile device to determine the capabilities and/or preferences associated with the receiving facsimile device and convert the facsimile document to match those capabilities and/or preferences before a call is placed.
Abstract:
A method and system for monitoring, controlling and diagnosing operation of a machine such as a business office machine including a facsimile machine, a copier, and a printer. When the speed of communication between the remote device and machine is not urgent, a connectionless mode of communication may be used. The form of connectionless communication is an electronic mail message transmitted over the Internet. However, when a condition needs urgent action, a direct connection is used for communication such as communication via a telephone or ISDN line. The information obtained from the machine is stored in one or more data bases within a company and information of the machine is shared between a service department, engineering and design department, manufacturing department, and marketing department. As communication over the Internet via electronic mail is not secure, the connectionless-mode messages transmitted using Internet electronic mail are encrypted.

Abstract:
A method and device to transmit and/or receive fax data in a fax machine or a multifunctional device including a fax function. The method of transmitting the fax data may include transmitting fax data intended to be transmitted to an external device using a user datagram protocol (UDP), receiving a signal requesting that the fax data be re-transmitted from the external device when an error occurs in the transmission of the fax data, and re-transmitting the fax data to the external device in response to the request signal. Accordingly, the fax on a receiving end checks whether a transmission error occurred when data is transmitted from a fax of a transmitting end using a UDP, and, when a transmission error is present, transmits a request signal requesting that the data be re-transmitted to the fax on the transmitting end. At this point, the data is immediately re-transmitted. Therefore, reliability of fax data transmission is increased and the time required for data transmission can be reduced.
Abstract:
A camera apparatus including a camera unit which acquires an image, a line-of-sight detection unit which detects a point of eye fixation of a user within a camera screen, and an importance computation unit which determines levels of importance for respective areas of the image acquired by the camera unit in accordance with the detection by the line-of-sight detection unit. Also included is a number-of-gray-scale-level determining unit which changes a number of gray scale levels for the respective areas of the image in response to the determination by the importance computation unit.
Abstract:
Gracefully forcing two V.34 fax devices to use legacy G3 modulations (e,g., V.21, V.27ter, V.29, V.17) when communicating over a packet network (e.g, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)network). To force an originating fax terminal 10 and receiving fax terminal 18 to fallback to legacy modulation procedures, transmission of a Call Menu (CM) “FAX” signal 54 transmitted by the originating fax device 10 is suppressed S38 at either the originating VoIP/FoIP gateway 12 or answering VoIP/FoIP gateway 16. The suppression of the CM signal 54 forces the answering V.34 fax device 18 to timeout and fallback to non-V.34 fax modulations S40 as if the calling terminal 10 was not V.34-capable. Likewise, upon detecting the non-V.34 fax signals, the originating V.34 fax device 10 will fallback to non-V.34 fax procedures S42. The two V.34 fax terminals will continue the fax transmission using non-V.34 modulations S44.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus to print an image file store in an image providing device by connecting the image providing device to an image printing device include determining a universal interface class supported by the image providing device, determining a connection mode between the image providing device and the image printing device according to the determined universal interface class, and printing an image file transmitted from the image providing device to the image printing device according to the determined connection mode.
Abstract:
In data transfer in isochronous mode using an IEEE1394 serial bus, the data transfer rate is guaranteed, but data transfer is disabled if the number of channels is insufficient. An already assigned channel is released by lowering the data transfer rate currently using that channel, and the released channel is assigned to new data transfer, thus allowing the new data transfer.
Abstract:
A communication terminal device includes a connection establishing unit which establishes a connection by a call control protocol with a destination device designated by an IP telephone number, a communication protocol requesting unit which request a presentation of a plurality of communication protocols which can be supported by the destination device over the connection, a communication protocol selecting unit which selects one communication protocol which the communication terminal device itself can support from the communication protocols presented from the destination device as a response to the request by the communication protocol requesting unit, and a communication unit which communicates with the destination device over the connection by the communication protocol selected by the communication protocol selecting unit.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an Internet facsimile machine including a processor having an ability exchanging function for transmitting to a receiving device a first electronic mail that includes format information of original image data and standard format image data, transmitting a second electronic mail that includes machine receiving ability information of the receiving device, and transmitting a third electronic mail that includes image data formed from the original image data in accordance with the machine receiving ability information. The Internet facsimile machine also includes a processor having a communication management recording function for storing a communication record table of the series of electronic mails and outputting the communication record table. The Internet facsimile machine further includes a storage device storing communication identifying information and communication procedure information for the series of electronic mails as a plurality of communication records and a communication records outputting device for outputting the communication records formed in accordance with the communication identifying information and the communication procedure information and using the communication records of the series of the electronic mails when outputting the communication record table by the processor having the communication management recording function.
