Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for objectively ascertaining a color match between a selected standard color and the color exhibited by an interference effect pigment during processing thereof and terminating the process upon achieving a match. The invention provides a spectrophotometer attached to a flow cell to monitor the color of a platy effect pigment to monitor pigment color and ascertain completion of the coating reaction process involved in interference pigment production.
Abstract:
A lustrous interference pigment with a black absorption color is obtained by forming a mica coated with hydrous titanium, iron and cobalt or chromium oxides, calcining the coated mica and then coating the resulting product with hydrous titanium and/or iron oxides and calcining the resulting product.
Abstract:
One aspect of the present invention relates to a catalyst system for use in olefinic polymerization, containing a solid titanium catalyst component prepared by contacting a titanium compound and a magnesium compound; an organoaluminum compound having at least one aluminum-carbon bond; and an organosilicon compound comprising at least one of cyclobutyl group. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a method of making a catalyst for use in olefinic polymerization, involving the steps of reacting a Grignard reagent having a cyclobutyl group with an orthosilicate to provide an organosilicon compound having a cyclobutyl moiety; and combining the organosilicon compound with an organoaluminum compound having at least one aluminum-carbon bond and a solid titanium catalyst component prepared by contacting a titanium compound and a magnesium compound.
Abstract:
A method of producing a multilayer co-extruded iridescent film of sufficient strength to be slit into microfilaments includes orientating a multilayer co-extruded iridescent film of at least 10 generally parallel very thin layers of substantially uniform thickness, the contiguous adjacent layers being of different thermoplastic resinous materials whose refractive index differ by at least about 0.03 until the thickness of the film is about 20% and 50% of the film before orientation.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for reducing the TPM level of a diesel engine exhaust stream by providing a suitable oxidation catalyst into the exhaust train. The oxidation catalyst may be incorporated into a thermal insulative coating on the inner surface of the exhaust train, particularly the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipes prior to the turbocharger. Alternatively, when the exhaust train includes a turbocharger, the catalyst can be in a separate monolithic unit between the engine and the turbocharger. The system may also include an improved diesel oxidation catalyst unit having a metal monolithic substrate. The oxidation catalyst can also be incorporated into a thermal insulative coating inside the cylinders, particularly on non-rubbing surfaces such as The invention also includes the use of a protective mullite top coat on the thermal coating. A further embodiment is the use of a stainless steel bond coat to bind the thermal coating to a metallic substrate, particularly an aluminum substrate.
