Abstract: A stormwater treatment system includes water treatment media that defines a helical flow path within a conduit. The water treatment media may include a plurality of helical water treatment media components that are constructed and arranged to seal against an inside surface of the conduit. The individual helical water treatment media components may be installed in situ within the conduit when the conduit is positioned within a chamber having an access opening, and periodically removed and replaced by passing the components to the access opening. The components further may have a flexible frame, which allows the water treatment media to dynamically adjust to swelling of the filtration media and other forces that may occur during use. The performance of the system may be adjusted by adjusting the helical pitch of the helical water treatment media components.

Abstract: A device for detecting the presence of hydrocarbon fluid in runoff water includes an outer canister and a cartridge situated within the outer canister. The cartridge includes a pre-filter, at least one containment vessel, a diffuser/separator member situated within the containment vessel, a hydrocarbon fluid accumulator and an electronic circuit. The diffuser/separator member slows the flow of runoff water entering the containment vessel so that oil in the runoff water separates from and rises to the surface of the water where it accumulates in the hydrocarbon fluid accumulator. A sensor situated in the hydrocarbon fluid accumulator detects the accumulated oil and sends a signal to the electronic circuit which, in turn, closes a valve and prevents water from flowing through an egress opening in the outer canister.

Abstract: A storm water trough filter system is mountable in a storm vault having interior walls and a storm water inlet formed in at least one of the interior walls which allows storm water to flow therethrough and into the storm vault. The storm water trough filter system has at least one trough section which defines a water trough for receiving storm water flowing into the storm vault through the storm water inlet thereof. The storm water trough filter system further includes at least one mounting bracket which is affixable to at least one of the interior walls of the storm vault, the at least one trough section being mountable on the at least one mounting bracket. The storm water trough filter system further includes a filtering apparatus having a water permeable filtering medium. The water trough defined by the at least one trough section is in fluid communication with the water permeable filtering medium of the filtering apparatus to direct storm water received by the water trough to the filtering medium of the filtering apparatus.

Abstract: A catch basin stormwater filtering apparatus includes a support frame and a filter medium supported by the support frame. The support frame includes a planar upper plate and a planar lower plate disposed below and in close proximity to the upper plate. The upper and lower plates have substantially the same outer dimensions, and the support frame defines a central opening. The filter medium is in the shape of a basket and includes lateral side walls of which adjacent walls are joined together, and a bottom wall, the lateral side walls defining a top opening which is disposed in alignment with the central opening of the support frame. The filter medium also includes a flange that extends outwardly from the lateral side walls at the top opening of the filter medium. The flange is interposed between and adhesively joined to the upper plate and the lower plate of the support frame.

Abstract: An expansion ring mountable in a storm drain for supporting a filtering apparatus includes a ring-shaped expansion member having an adjustable diameter which is cut transversely to define two open end portions thereon which face each other and which are separated from each other by a predetermined distance to define a gap therebetween. A wedge assembly is positioned at the gap between the open end portions of the expansion member and is adjustable to increase the diameter of the expansion member. When the wedge assembly is adjusted to increase the diameter of the expansion member, the expansion member tightly engages a side wall of a portion of the storm drain in which the expansion ring is mounted to secure the expansion ring, and a filtering apparatus supported thereby, in a desired position.
