Abstract: A method for manufacturing a grazing incidence optical element is provided that includes the steps of: providing a mandrel having a surface with a profile complementary to the profile of an optical surface of the optical element to be made; adhering at least one glass sheet to the mandrel to define the optical surface; and depositing a carbon fiber reinforcing material on an outer surface of the glass sheet to create a shell solidly connected to the glass sheet.

Abstract: An apparatus for non-invasive inspection of solid bodies by muon imaging, comprising a receiver (3) adapted to intercept a muon flux associated with cosmic rays passing through a portion of a body to be inspected, sensor means (4) adapted to detect the amount of photons or Cherenkov radiation associated with the intercepted muon flux, electronic processing means adapted to reconstruct energy and direction of the muon flux incident the portion of the body to be inspected to calculate the local density thereof. Abstract: A device for disinfecting an air flow, comprising a hollow body having an axis A, a side wall and two base walls provided with internal reflective surfaces, an inlet opening and an outlet opening formed in the respective base walls and at least one source of UV-C radiation disposed within the hollow body, and a helical-shaped deflector axially housed in the hollow body; wherein the hollow body is cylindrical and an outer edge of the deflector cooperates substantially sealingly with the inner surface of the side wall of the hollow body so as to define with said side wall a helical conduit traversed by the entire flow. The device may be used in assisted ventilation systems to disinfect the air exhaled by a patient.

Abstract: A method for detecting a viral agent including the steps of placing a first sample that includes an isotonic solution in a waveguide which is axially delimited by a pair of containment elements that are substantially transparent to microwaves and define respective interfaces of the sample; transmitting a signal with frequency variable in a predetermined microwave band to the first sample; acquiring at least one dielectric parameter of the first sample as the frequency varies by means of transmission and reflection measurements; repeating the previous steps for a second sample; and performing a differential spectroscopic analysis on the parameters for assessing the presence of a viral agent in at least one of the samples.
